Hey everyone. I’m doing a little game planning for 2020 and would like to book a warm trip for March to either Vegas or Scottsdale. We have not been to either resort so some suggestions on which you like better would be greatly appreciated. We will be traveling with three children ages 8, 6, and 2. It looks like there should be plenty to do in either town.....

In either locale, there is much more for adults to do than kids, but at least there are pools. We just spent a week at Desert Club Las Vegas and found it to be a good- off-Strip location to use as a base to enjoy Vegas, (but not so much for gambling) That said, very little would be within walking distance. They offer shuttle service.

Thanks fro the input Jim. Im leaning toward Scottsdale as I have never really spent time in AZ. And gambling is not on my list of to do anyway. Im more interested in the quality of the resort amenities and the surrounding area as far as outdoor pursuits go like hiking and such. And I believe Scottsdale would be warmer in March then Vegas typically. Any thoughts?

Well, I have been to both and they are both very nice. They are less than 200 miles from each other so the heat differential is going to be minimal. Yet in March they both could be rather cool and rainy. They both have the typical amenities like swimming pools, and activities. Neither is in a non-urban setting although Scottsdale is a bit less urban- there is vacant land to the North but not really available for hiking.

You should be able to get good airfares to either since they are both frequent destinations or airport hubs. If you have a car when there, you can go out toward Hoover Dam and Lake Mead from Vegas or Sedona from Scottsdale.

There is really no wrong choice here. Scottsdale is probably better for outdoor activities but i would warn about aimlessly tramping in the desert. Automobile traffic is probably the thing that tips the balance for me. I don’t like driving in Vegas. OTOH there are probably more excursions available from Vegas. If the Grand Canyon is in your plans, both offer reasonable access. I would also recommend you take the Grand Canyon Railroad from Williams AZ (see their website) rather than driving there. Between Williams and the GC- there is 60 miles of NOTHING! You might as well see it comfortably from the train and the kids will love it.
