Wow, I asked for closing costs on a HICV conversion package, and the total price is $3K higher than it was a month ago!

Unit: $10K
Closing Costs: $1K
Annual Points: 45K
Maintenance: $267

Maintenance is the only bright spot of the whole transaction...it's under my target of $6/1K points.

The sales rep said that the new requirement for converting existing fixed weeks is a $10K purchase - if anyone is offered anything less, please get the name and phone number of the HICV sales rep.

And that conversion cost is to convert one unit or as many units as you currently own or what you own plus what you purchase in the next X months? And will they put the whole deal in writing.

Bad idea to convert. Just another way for them to make $$$$. It never works out for owners.

Last I heard, you could convert 1 current unit and 3 future units in next 60 days (you get something in writing), but I asked for confirmation. I'd never heard of the limit of 3 future units before today.

The reasons to do this are to get status and lower maintenance costs - you can save about ~$2/1K points on maintenance with fixed week units, so at 1M points, you are saving about $2K/year and elite benefits are substantial, maybe another $2K/year (25% advanced booking savings before 8 months, unlimited upgrades, signature 9 months out, non-signature 12 months out, unit-specific reservations, free point shield, free 7-day reservation, $5/1K rental points).

Boy, am i glad that I got in the last days of conversion at Desert Club a few years ago for @$200. No way i would pay these prices. But I am very frugal.. I learned a lot on TUG.
