We are going to HHI in early April and staying at SurfWatch, any recommendations for golf? Coming from the north so just looking to start the season And get some rounds in. Does Marriott offer discounts for points owners?

Yes there is a small package of 3 or 4 courses in HH that Marriott offers a discount. Years ago it was a more robust selection but has been parred down. Still, decent courses and there isn't usually a problem to find a variety of other discount golf options ie specific courses offer discounts after certain hours, senior discounts etc.

Sandcfort,

Distances are from Surfwatch.

I have never paid full price.
Use www.golfnow.com and click on "Hot Deals"
Use www.teeoff.com and click on "Deals"

Should you decide to play any, I have flyover/tips for individual holes.

Here goes:
2 courses at Port Royal

Barony Golf (once) Built in 1960’s. 3*/88% OK Tee shots, but rough and tough traps guard greens that are undulating. Considered their ‘Resort Course’, several shorter doglegs. Decent practice area. Several Homes.
10 Clubhouse Drive 2m/:06Ne 843-681-1700

Robber’s Row (once) 3*/88% Built 1967, redone in 1994 by Pete Dye. Civil War grounds/history and markers, considered their ‘Championship Course’; a bit narrow, more scenic. #9, #10, #11 are all TOUGH Par 4’s especially #9!!
10 Clubhouse Dr, (843) 681-1703, (843) 681-1750 2m/:06Ne 843-681-1700

Bear Creek */85% Considered ‘Private’, but not. Short is generally better than Long on most holes . 237 Whooping Crane Way 843-681-9510 5m/:11NE

Country Club of Hilton Head */82% Bermuda rough is tough. 70 Skull Creek Drive 7m/:16NE Is this considered Private?? 843-681-2582

Dolphin Head (four times) 3.5*/92% Good greens, but downhill putts are UNFAIR (FAST) 56 High Bluff Rd 7m/:15N 843-681-5550

The Golden Bear at Indigo Run (once) 3*/83% Nicklaus Water and Sand, but not overly penalizing. Homes. 110 Indigo Run Drive 4m/:11W 843-689-2200 GPS sends you to the back gate!!

Hilton Head National
(twice) 4*/97% Well-conditioned course, and quite playable, not a lot of ‘obstacles’. 60 Hilton Head National Drive, Bluffton 843-842-5900 10m/:16nW

Old South Golf Links (twice) 4*/95% Well-conditioned course, and ‘playable’. Few bunkers in front of green. Expect to see GATORS, even before you tee off.. 50 Buckingham Plantation Dr. Bluffton 10m/:15nE 843-785-5353

Oyster Reef (once) 3.5*/87% Built in 1982 Lagoons, vegetation, views of the Island, memorable par 3 #6. Tree-lined, doglegs, mild undulation in greens. 155 High Bluff Road 843-681-1764 6m/:12N 80/60/ 54/GN

Palmetto Hall Plantation Club 2 courses: 108 Fort Howell Drive 843-342-2582 4m/:09N

Cupp (twice) 3.5*/ ? Built 1993 Many approach shots over water or sand. Highest Slope on HH from back tees!!!

Hills (twice) 3.5*/84% Hazards are more Lateral than ‘carry’.

Pinecrest (twice) 2*/89% ??! Lower price, lower quality course, seems ‘soggy’. 1 Pinecrest Way, Bluffton 15m/:24nW 843-757-8960

Shipyard (four) 3.5*/74% (should be higher than that! ) 27 holes, greens putt true, gnarly rough: Clipper (1970’s) Sand, Water, most difficult of the 3; Galleon (1970’s) Large Oaks and Tall Pines, Guarded Greens; Brigantine (1982) Scenic, Water Hazards, slight Doglegs, some Alligators. 45 Shipyard Drive, 5m/:10S 843-681-1750

We played Bear Creek the past two times down to HHI. There was a deal through Marriott Concierge that included range, 18 holes, cart, lunch and beverage. The lunch and beverage I thought would be a hot dog and Miller Lite, but much to our surprise it was anything on the clubhouse menu and a decent tap beer. The course was a little rough, but still a fun round to play given the cost (sorry don't recall the $$ amount).
Also played at The Club Savannah Harbor (Westin). This was a very nice course with top notch amenities. One round there was a screeching halt to play as a large graduation group was finishing up on 17 and 18 (we called it quits after 15 do to the slowdown).

I haven't played Bear Creek.

I have played at The Club at Savannah Harbor. We paid less than $70 both times----and that's about my threshold, and it was worth that. It takes about 50 minutes to get there.

Are we confusing Palmetto Hall, and Palmetto Dunes?

Palmetto Hall (Cupp, Hills) are quite nice, worth playing.

Palmetto Dunes are expensive----I have not played those----but I would expect them to be "...top class", given their high greens fees.

Harbourtown (PGA tourney there) is even MORE 'Top Class' I haven't played there for $290. (caddie extra)

the hills course at palmetto hall is a great layout and was in great condition when I last played there about 3 years ago.
trent Jones course at palmetto dunes is outstanding.
