Hello,
Does someone know where I can learn about the differences in the HGVC towers at Waikiki? Specifically, I want to know what the differences are between the Kalia, Lagoon, Grand Islander, and the Waikikian towers (I think thats all of them). I know they are all adjacent to each other, but the differences in prices make me think the differences in the accommodations must be significant.

I am considering the Kalia Suites because its more reasonably priced. Any advice you have or direction on where I can find this info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

We've stayed at all the HGVC properties in Hawaii. If its important to you, Lagoon, Hokulani and Kalia have shared laundry faculties. Grand Waikikian and Islander have in-unit laundry. Of those, my personal favorites are Grand Waikikian and Kalia. Grand Islander is newest, but (IMHO) it lacks Aloha.

Your reasoning about the Kalia being reasonably prices is good. Kalia is a timeshare/hotel mixed building and is one of the furthest from the Water. The Kalia also has units with beautiful mountain views but no Ocean View. The Lagoon has the the same pricing as the Kalia and is the closest timeshare building to the Water. All units in the Lagoon are either Ocean Front or have an Ocean View. The Grand Islander is the newest of all buildings and is also one of the furthest from the Water.

All are nice and are renovated frequently to keep up their condtioning and appearance.

Grand Waikikian and Islander are more upscale than Lagoon.

The Kalia tower is parallel to the ocean. One side faces the ocean and the other side faces the city/mountain.

The Kalia Tower studios and plus units faces the ocean.

NOTE: The Lagoon Tower has three view categories garden/city view, ocean view and oceanfront.
Some of the garden/city view rooms are on the lower floors with blocked views (see 5th floor garden/city view posted below).

There are units that are standard view in Lagoon. The 4800 point 1br and 7000 point 2br come to mind. You could get a low floor 1br or 2br that are considered standard view. I was in a std 2br that both balconies faced the parking garage on the 5th floor. Opposite end of the building of the premier oceanfront rooms are city view rooms.

Your correct about some of the 2 BR standard units. I have stayed in the Lagoon Tower for over 1000 nights and have never booked a 2 BR unit. Kalia has no 2 BR units so I was comparing 1 BR and Studios in the Kalia to the Lagoon Tower. You are also correct that the view from the standard units on the 3rd or 4th floor is alot of palm trees instead of Ocean but low floors usually have their drawbacks in view and noise.

4th floor at Lagoon would be great if you do not like waiting for the elevators and willing to walk stairs. I have enjoyed those low rooms sometimes. Usually when the elevator lines are long after the fireworks show. Or love those low balconies when they have entertainment on the lawn. Just enjoy the free concert from the comfort of my room.

...but the differences in prices make me think the differences in the accommodations must be significant.
The differences in point cost more speak to when a property entered the HGVC system then any differences in the quality of accommodation. This is true at HHV and elsewhere as well.

I second most if not all of what was said above, but add the following tidbit - if you are looking for a studio and not a 1BR many people prefer Kalia over Lagoon despite Lagoon's proximity to the water.
