Hello, my husband and I are looking to buy 5,000 to 7,000 points at one of the HGVC resorts in Orlando to be added to the 9,000 points we already own in NYC. I have spoken with both a resale agent as well as someone at HGVC. There is a BIG difference in the pricing of course - $5,000 vs. $25,000. Of course HGVC promises Bonus points, etc..., but they also told me that you can NOT get Elite Status if some of your points are from the resale market and that the points that you buy on the resale market can only be used for that specific resort (i.e. no exchanging for other resorts)? The difference in the pricing is so big we are leaning towards resale of course, but we don't want to end up with points that we can not do much with. Thanks!!

Resale points do not count toward elite status but there are no other restrictions to the points bought resale.

In regards to trading the points, it is NOT true that you can only use your resale points for the resort you purchased. I just purchased Hilton points and have a confirmed reservation at a resort other than my home resort!!!

My 5000 annual points were $1700 and there were no closing costs for the sale!!!

Thanks! That is an awesome deal. Did you work with a specific resale company?

eBay!!

I recommend Sean's Timeshares on eBay! They are fast and efficient and the buyer does not pay closing or resort transfer fees. But it does require patience. You have to wait for the right resort and points, then a little luck in winning the bid.

If my bid had not won or if Hilton had exercised ROFR, I would have used HGVresales.

HGVresales.com

Many on here highly recommend resale agent Judy. Someone on here can post her info.

If you click on the TUG MARKETPLACE link in the RED banner at the top of the page all the trusted TUG resellers advertise there and you can peruse their ads. Click sort by Resort Name in the upper right of the ad list and all the HGVC are listed together.

I'm not sure if you meant the "Elite" comment how I read it..........but what I was read was you were told if you have any resale points then you can not get Elite status. That is not true. What is true is that resale points no longer count towards Elite status. As long as you have at least 14,000 HGVC direct purchase points then you'll be Elite. Again, not sure if that's what you meant or not. I got Elite status by purchasing from HGVC and then started buying resale to add points.

Just purchased two resale properties in Miami from local office. Those do count towards Elite status so long as you have at least one property from corporate. There are different resale rules when purchasing outside of one of the local offices (i.e. Miami, Myrtle Beach, Las Vegas...). If ebay, etc., you cannot climb the Elite ladder, or at least that is my understanding. If approved and sold through the local office for the property they have jurisdiction, then OK for Elite. ROFR does apply, but so far not an issue.

Thanks for all of the information! We went ahead and purchased 5,000 points on the resale market for 1/10 of the price from corporate. We will see what happens with the ROFR with Hilton.
