I've looked around the HGVC website and the TUG forums but have thus far been unsuccessful in finding a points calculator for making a HGVC reservation (though I did find Talent312's excellent date-to-book spreadsheet). Thanks to the ongoing unpleasantness I'm forced to make a non home week reservation at HHV in the summer of 2021. I'd love to avoid doing the calculations of the various towers and room types by hand. TIA.

FWIW, I use the online booking system as a points calculator. For example, if I was wondering how many points a 1BR+ at Grand Waikikian would be for 9 nights in May 2021 (Gold Season), I would look for 9 nights in another Gold Season like Sept/Oct to calculate the number of points needed to book 9 nights in a 1BR+.

Is that what you are asking? Or something different?

there are published point charts for each room and season. If you go to a resort on the booking website- it shows all room types, and if available, points needed to book. If you are looking at non-availble dates, the points chart tells you. If for instance you have 7000 points and want to go to Hawaii - look at the points charts for each resort and you can determine what your points will get per season, per room type.

Yup, I’ve done this too. Make sure you use the same days of the week. M-Th takes half the amount of points per day than F-Sun.

What tombanjo said -- there is no universal "points calculator", as many resorts have different point values based on room type and season.

While i generally don't like the MVC website, one nice feature they have is a points calculator. They let you select the resort, dates, room type etc and you can see exactly what the ressie will cost. It comes in handy to quickly check on the cost of something that is outside the booking window.

I could see where that would be handy!

It is indeed. I tried to use the booking system but it only shows point costs for room types for which there is availability.

I figured that “No” was the answer...I just wanted to make sure before I broke out my calculator and went to work on the point charts.

It sounds like something that we should add. I can not figure out how to do it. Does anyone have any ideas?

I don't even use my old spreadsheet anymore. I'm not as OCD as I used to be.

My new attitude is, if it's a unit I want, then either: 1) I have the points;
or 2) I can borrow the points; or 3) I'll shorten the stay.

Remember: 'Tis better a borrow than a saver be.

You can easily find the value of airline and hotel chains cents per point value at many websites such as ThePointsGuy and many others. There is also a point calculator at https://www.thepointcalculator.com/us/hotel/hilton/hilton-points-value-calculator that tells you what the points could be worth when used for certain redemptions. I would like to find out what the value of the point is when redeemed for gift cards, airfare, maintenance fees, RCI, cruises, etc... They do not all have the same value. But since it is so difficult to narrow down the value of a point to cash ratio, it makes it hard to determine if something is of value or not. If anyone has any resources, I would love to see them. Several years ago, there was a published value per point for redemption that I can no longer locate.

The problem with these is that they're all, inherently, wrong. They can indicate ranges of things, but the redemption value for these points is what you can get for them. For example, a hotel room costs X points or an airline ticket costs Y miles. Well for that same set of points/miles, there are a large number of possible redemptions with different cash values. So, these sites can give a ballpark, at best. Typically, it's pretty easy to to better than that with a little research.

Cheers.
