Wanted to stay at HGVC South Beach but just found out it has no pool -- is that true...... a Miami HGVC brand has no pool in such warranted climate??

Although Beach is great its across the street and must have pool -- any suggestions?

What? The zero-entry, infinity-horizon, salt-water pool across the street isn't good enuff?
The "Ocean Plaza" building has a hot tub on the roof outside the exercize room.

The South Beach Property is very different from the other properties. In addition to being much smaller, the units are in architecturally significant art-deco buildings and the lot area does not provide enough land for a pool. If you want to stay at a Hilton with a pool try the Hilton Bentley about 20 blocks south. The benefit of this property is its proximity to the action of South Beach and the ocean.

I think two roofs have a hot tub.

We stayed at this property some years ago before we had kids and when we use to go dancing alot. We loved it. Perfect for doing the South Beach scene. If you have kids and/or need a big resort this timeshare won't work for you.

You Don't Need a Car in South Beach or Waikiki Beach

This is another resort where you don't need a car. If you must have a car don't go to South Beach or Waikiki Beach. There are other great HGVC resorts with lots of pools and places where the parking is free and the traffic is much less. These are urban resorts on the beach where the ability to vacation large without a car is an important attraction. If you must have a car there are other places to stay. Why pay for parking and deal with traffic when you can vacation in other areas more comfortably and easier with your car right outside. Just remember to not drink and drive.

You could exchange thru RCI into one of the other Miami beach timeshares.
Golden Strand has a great pool and a beautiful beach. Solara Surfside is also a good choice. They are not in South beach but you could drive down or take the bus when you wanted more action. I live in Miami so would much rather stay in quieter Sunny Isles or Surfside but I understand why a tourist would want to stay in South beach. :p

One can definitely get by without a car if the idea is to stay only within South Beach. We had a great time exploring Miami, Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, the Everglades, and even Key West. And we saved a bundle by shopping at Costco. South Beach is great, but we didn't want to limit ourselves to just a small local area.

Next year we'll be driving down to HGVC South Beach after a convention in Orlando. Is there any place free to park, even if I take a cab to get back to the resort?

Maybe I can pick up the car in Orlando and return it in Miami somewhere? Anyone know how that would work and if it's cheaper to just keep the car sitting for the week? We'll need a car again after South Beach to go up to Vistana's Beach Club in Jensen Beach and then back to Orlando after that for our flight home.

There is a parking garage at Collins & 13th - about 3 blocks (2 south, 1 west) from the hotel.

There is also a HUGE parking garage at Collins & 16th - about 2.5 blocks (1.5 north, 1 west) from the hotel.

Return the car to the airport, take the airport South Beach Express bus to the hotel for $2. It takes about 25 minutes.

.

Do you know if these garages are for a daily fee or are they free? Also, can you park overnight? Thanks so much for the information.

The garages that are mentioned are paid garages. Thrifty rent a car is a block away from the resort on Collins. If you rent from thrify you can get rid of the car and then rent one again when you leave. You may have to pay a drop off fee.

Other resorts are better for exploring the area

We go to South Beach and Southern Florida quite offen. When we go to South Beach we stay in South Beach without a car and enjoy South Beach and all it has to offer without a car. When we want to go to Key West, Everglades, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach etc. we stay at another resort such as the resorts in Weston, where the parking is free, or Palm Beach Shores, where the parking is much less expensive. In Key West the Galleon is another excellent resort where you also don't need a car to have a ball.

By the way the resorts in Weston can be reserved using Extra Vacations at low cost and at times Last Calls.
