I received a telephone call today from "Corportate HGVC" where the person wanted to sell me additional points. I said not right now as we are happy with the number of points we have. As an additional "enticement" he said that within the next year, those that bought resale like me would no longer be able to trade into any other Hiltons except for my home resort. I am hopeful that was just a statement to encourage me to buy soon, but maybe they are thinking about it. Do you think there might be some truth that HGVC will change the rules, or is it just another timeshare sales pitch?

Interesting -- I believe this rumor has been raised before but I do not believe it would be possible for HGVC to implement this -- the point system is too much a part of the core structure of their system to block the ability to use points to travel to other properties.

I would believe the worst case is that they put some (modest) restrictions on future resales (other systems have affected the rights of resale properties going forward -- such as Disney, Marriott and Worldmark). Marriott's restriction was major, Disney and Worldmark's were minor -- but Marriott did a major surgery on their system.

But I couldn't possibly imagine they would restrict usage to only the home property. We will see -- thanks for posting!

Best,

Greg

Not sure how many resale owners there are but I suspect A LOT. Seems implausible that all of these owners would subsequently be dropped from HGVC membership which will subsequently have a huge impact of availability of the remaining owners (since all those weeks dropped will no longer be available for HGVC members).

Sure sounds like a scare tactic of a salesperson. If HGVC cannot verify those claims as FACT then the salesperson, who is representing Hilton, should be turned in for FALSE CLAIMS. I cannot believe Hilton would tolerate outright lying.

How do you know a TS salesman is lying, even a HGVC-salesman? His lips move.
We've heard such statements here b4, and it never came to pass. Nor will it.
This is a TS salesman's pipe-dream.

-- Legally, they cannot unilaterally create two classes among current owners. Their high-priced lawyers must'a told them that, long ago.
-- Practically, there's no way they could look-back thru evey member's record to figure out who falls into which class.
-- And yes, it would choke availability at "home" resorts to such an extent that remaining club members woud be royally ticked-off.

Perhaps a change could be applied to those who buy after a change is announced, but handling multiple classes of owners and creating a website able to do it would be an administrative nightmare. Their servers, not to mention their reps, would short-circuit.

IOW, there is absolutely no reason to listen to some cretin who could not get a job other than making cold-calls and lying to marks.

If this were the case then the affiliates would all go away since they are all resale buyers. That would definitely not be a selling point for the club since the affiliates make the club look so much better than it really is without them.
