There are 17 resorts on Florida West Coast broken down into

9 on Captiva Island
3 on Sanibel Island
5 on Marco Island

Has anyone done a better analysis such as the most desirable locations or tips on how to book them?

They all appear to have limited availability and are hard to book.

I see a few 2-night openings, BUT they limit you to 3 night minimum stays

It appears these need to be booked at the start of the 9 month booking window or they sell out.

It’s because most of the owners use their week instead of converting to points. The point values aren’t all that great except for winter weeks.

Keep an eye on availability 30-60 days out. Many owners at those resorts (including me) have fixed weeks, so our reservations are actually made up to two years in advance. However, we have until 30 days out to cancel that reservation and turn them into HGVC points, if we decide not to use them that year. There is no real incentive for us to release them sooner, like at a year or nine months out. You will see a few people who wait until close to the last minute to make their final decision and release the weeks.

At the end of August, we spent a week at Eagle's Nest on Marco Island.
It was a club booking. You can find space, if you're flexible as to when+where.
Just be patient and keep looking.

Most of these resorts are affiliates, not HGVC owned resorts. Owners have been going there for years and don't trade out. We only traded out once while we owned Charter Club of Marco Beach and that was because it was a reservation that was with the resort when we bought it and the days were not good for us. We used the points at Parc Soliel and Tuscany in Orlando instead.

I do realise these are HGVC affiliates, but HGVC gives the illusion of lots of locations to use your points in Florida, but in reality it is only Orlando
I own Marco Island affiliates and have deposited them in the hgvc system.

I also have been able many times to get prime winter weeks and holiday weeks in hgvc at Marco Island, sanibel and Captiva. It never took long to find these weeks but consistent searching a few times a day for a few weeks got them. I find late evening has been the best time.

Casa Ybel rooms are very dated and not up to typical HGVC quality. I would recommend staying elsewhere.

We booked a 3 day stay there earlier in August. When we arrived my wife walked around the room and refused to even take her shoes off because it felt dated. She called and they were able to change our stay to HGVC Tuscany in Orlando effective that evening. We drove to Orlando and had a wonderful weekend.

Miami Beach, nice art deco property.

Speaking of Summer weeks at Charter Club, there are a lot of owners that use the in house rentals to rent out there weeks and make a little money in the process and don’t spend the money to put the unit into HGVC. Someone made a comment about how her resort (eagles nest which she was trying to sell) was so much better because they had less renters. I can tell you there is no difference sitting next to a timeshare owner who paid $1200 MF and a renter who spent $2400 or more for his week.
