Reviews seem very good here on TUG

I have now meet 2 Club Regina owners who use the term "old" and "a dump" for Club Regina PV.

Can anyone clarify the timeshares condition?

I was there in November 2005 and was very pleased with the condition of the rooms and the resort. A well deserved Gold Crown.

We were there for 2 weeks beginning 1/21 with another couple. Shared a 2 br unit on 10th floor facing the beach. We thought the place was fabulous. Rooms were large, clean and comfortable. Grounds were outstanding.

Couldn't ask for more.

Would go back in a heartbeat.

I'm An Owner

I haven't been there for a couple years. While it isn't brand spanking new I would hardly call it "old" or "a dump". Our 2 br unit was very spacious and clean with fabulous views of the Bay of Banderas. The kitchen is more like a kitchenette, but that seems to be common among all Mexican resorts. I think they like to encourage you to eat out. The pools are very nice with plenty of lounges for everyone. I had no complaints and would certainly say it is deserving of it's Gold Crown status. FWIW it was rated #5 on the travel channel's best Mexican resorts. When are your travel dates? Summer is the rainy season, and it is very hot, humid and overcast then.

I own there and did a lot of reasearch before I bought- and I read on tripadvisor.com too. Never in a million years would those two words come to mind as apt descriptions for this place. Never. The timeshare units are typical Mexican-type units. Heavy wood furniture, not what one would call luxurious but quite festive and very comfy and clean. I have read the Cancun property reviews and they seem to be the worst of the Mexico Regina properties. PV is glorious- we leave in five days and are bringing three other couples with us. The grounds are lovely and the people at the resort very kind aand helpful. Don't know who you are talking to but, hey, you can't please everyone.

Blondie, I think CR Cancun has cleaned up it's act some. Exchangers were being put into the Premier tower leased from the Westin. It was in poor repair and from what I can tell really was a dump. Club Regina did not renew the lease on that building, so now when you exchange in you really are exchanging into CR. The actual condos are supposed to be really nice like the other CRs.

We are owners also. We love each of the resorts in Mexico for different reasons. The PV furniture has been updated with more comfortable beds, a new couch in living room that folds out into a foam type sleep sofa. We love Club Regina Puerto Vallarta for its beautiful pools and grounds, the great views of the bay from all but a small building that faces the tennis courts and the marina district. We only stayed in that unit when we had a studio week. it is where they put the RCI exchanges, but it wasn't bad either on the upper levels that had a view. We were on 5th floor. If you are renting from an owner, you will more likely get an ocean view. They also give the bay view to people who they hope will take a presentation....

You are within walking distance of the marina where you will find nice shops and restaurants. The pools have swim-up bars where you can have a drink or lunch. You will be treated well and have a lovely room with a hot tub on the balcony & an in room safe for your valuables, 2 baths, 2 TVs. We love this resort and the staff. We also have internet access inthe louge free for members in 15 minute increments. all we have to do is sign up for one of two computers.

the higher floors afford a better view of the bay because there are a lot of palm trees. On check-in, ask for a room with a good view. If you are right above the activity pool, you may find the music and chatter of the activity staff annoying if you stay in your room in the mornings, but they don't really bother us.

I will be very surprised if you don't like the resort. Enjoy.

It's the hotel portion of the same resort. Same pools, same beach, same spa, same restaurants. The hotel is run by the Westin. You know, the Heavenly Bed people. ;)

We where there in late December in a 2 bedroom facing ocean on a high floor. We found the facilities to be in good shape, the rooms comfortable and the staff very friendly. We had a beautiful sunset each night from our rooms. We walked to Marina several nights for dinner and other nights we took cabs into town (ca. $10) for dinner. WE took cab to Wal Mart to buy breakfast food/snacks, but you can get them at reasonable price at resort. We played tennis almost every day (free), used health club, and staff arranged golf for us. Very user freindly. The GR facility is not Ritz Carlton level, but we were very happy with it. Enjoy your trip. We also had a blast doing the Canopy tour. Highly recomended.

We are members of RVC rather than Club Regina owners. The folks at Club Regina know from their records that we own at Whiskijack.

"They also give the bay view to people who they hope will take a presentation...."

We have been to PV Club Regina 2 times for a total of 3 weeks. Our units have always been on the 10th floor facing the swimming pools, beach, and bay. We have never been asked to take a presentation at Club Regina. Don't know if that is because of our RVC membership or not.

As an owner/user of Club Regina, I take a certain pride in Club Regina Puerto Vallarta, and I take great exception with the comment that it is old and a dump. The timeshare building is older, but very well kept, and the grounds that the timeshare shares with the Westin Hotel are exceptionally well maintained. I've been going to Puerto Vallarta for the past five years and have seen no degradation. A dump? Absurd!

I have an upcoming reservation for March 11, 2006. I've looked at the www.clubregina.com web site and the place looks okay. However, I have across this web site, where the resort looks absolutely fabulous, and was wondering if it's really the same Club Regina resort:

Thanks!

Club Regina has NOTHING AT ALL TO DO with WESTIN. Westin is reputable, and Club Regina engages in scamming. Here is an email I received from Club Regina; "From: Valero Uriel [mailto:uvalero@clubregina.com]

Subject: Club Regina

Dear Mr. Lackman:

We were informed about the experience you had at the airport, with our promoter, and we regret for this situation.

We already talk to Sergio Vaca, the promoter, to make clear, he must specify from now on, that we are Club Regina, and not the Westin; and even though we are one in front of each other, we don’t belong to the Westin Resort & Spa.

We do offer you an apology for this, and we want to make sure you get back the rest of the money.

We were notified you gave 45 dlls. as a deposit and you only were given back 30 dlls., so we will send you the other 15 dlls. you are missing, but for this, we need to have a bank account number to make the deposit or please tell us where to send you this money.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

It is NOT THE "Heavenly Bed" People. Club Regina has nothing at all to do with Westin, other than the geograpical proximity. See my other post and see http://www.cancunscams.com

Re: Is this the same resort?

My wife and I were there November 2005. We absolutely loved it. The pictures at the Starwood site are accurate. Nicely stylized, mind you, but hey, they're trying to sell something. :)

We stayed at Club Regina last Dec. The units with the view of the bay are wonderful. We watched the cruise ships come & go. The kitchenette is a bit dated, "old Mexico" style with Mexican tile & open cupboards. What I especially liked was the spa tub on the balcony - I used it every morning to take a bubble soak (bubble soap provided). It was wonderful beginning the day with a fantastic view of the bay in a bubble bath! One criticism of the resort is that there is a night club on premises, and on Fri. & Sat. nights, they play disco music until 3 AM. Ask for a unit as far from the night club as possible.

Feel free to climb off my back any time. I did not say Club Regina was the same thing as the Westin. Club Regina and the Westin share facilities whether you like it or not, so get over it. If you look online you will see that the Westin PV affiliated with Starwood properties does indeed feature the Heavenly Bed. Westin Get your facts straight.

Club Regina is a very nice resort and nobody hasseled us about buying. We had more trouble with the Mayan Palace guys. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Generally I have found that you get what you give.

A disappointing experience!
My week stay at the Westin Club Regina Cancun was fraught with disappointment. I have been a member of Club Regina Cabo for 14 years and have had wonderful experiences every year. When I made my reservation too late for Club Regina Cabo I had to choose elsewhere. I decided to spend the week of December 6th through the 13th at the Club Regina Cancun. I confirmed my reservation for a room with two rooms each with a king size bed and a living room kitchen area. I invited two friends to come with because I believed there would be plenty of space. When we checked in out room had only one bedroom and a living room kitchen area. One of my friends had to sleep on the couch and the other on a roll away cot. We were told several times that no other rooms were available but later found out that Club Regina was only 30% occupied. The room was the main point of disappointment but there were a number of other problems that arose through the week that included:
• We were also locked out of our room on three occasions during our stay. Two times we were locked out maintenance took thirty to respond. On one occasion were had to wait until the next morning for our locks to be fixed. One of our 2 doors stopped working a fourth time.
• Maids did not clean the room 3 of 7 days.
• No towels when we needed them
• The front desk constantly could not make change from dollars to Pecos and only had 20 Pecos notes that were worth $2.00
• This is very inconvenient when you need to convert several hundred dollars
• The Margaritas poolside were terrible for a Mexican resort this was severely disappointing
• Activities –there was only beach and pool
• In the end the front desk and Rain Tree representatives ignored our needs
• They tried to charge me for an orphans fund without my permission which was 3-5% of the total bill
• Maids pension fund
• $3-5 a day for the maids which didn’t show up
• Were charged $25 for the loss of a discount/ towel card
I feel like the management of the Club Regina Cancun neither cared about my experience nor felt like making an effort to change the horrible experience I had.

I'm sorry to hear about your time at Club Regina Cancun. I'm an owner at Club Regina PV and have spent a week at CR Cabos, which was wonderful. I just don't want people to link this to CR Puerto Vallarta, which was the original thread.

I am sorry that you had a bad experience at the Cancun Club Regina. We have had very good experiences there and the staff has been very good in our experiences. We are heading there on 1/03 and I will share your experience with the staff there, in hopes that they will be more responsive to their guests.

Each of the Club Regina resorts (Cabo, Puerto Vallarta & Cancun) have very different appeal and we love all three of them and rotate our stays. We love the beach, the turquoise water, Puncta Nizuc and snorkeling access from the Cancun Club, and we have been very well treated by the staff for the 11 years we have gone to Club Regina. We have had daily maid service, fresh towels, and we have been treated like family by the staff. I don't drink Margaritas so I have no experience with the bar mixes...

We are looking forward to our 3 week stay....I will let you know how our experience goes.
