hi
We are thinking of buying some timeshares in Kihei Maui. They are reasonably priced one bedroom units with $900 per week fees.
We are wondering how we find out without joining RCI how much trading power we would have? Anyone that has experience and knowledge on this subject?

If you have a Resort Name, unit size, and the week number you plan to deposit, someone with an RCI account can check their Deposit Calculator and tell you what that deposit would get. That assumes you'd be depositing it early enough to get maximum trading power for the week. (I no longer have an RCI account, so I can't do it for you.) Keep in mind RCI's fees keep going higher and higher, (I think they've raised them again just this month), so the cost of exchanging through them is not always a good financial idea.

A bit of additional caution here: Hawaii maintenance fees can be higher than a comparable unit on the Mainland, and get the same amount of trading power with RCI. So be sure to do your homework - it's not always the smartest thing to pay Hawaii fees for purposes of depositing to an exchange company. Also keep in mind that RCI tends to give less TPUs for your deposit than they'd demand for you to accept that resort via exchange. So it'd cost you more TPUs to get back in, than they'd give you to exchange out.

I'd also add that owning a Hawaii week in order to exchange it, is not great economics. You wouldn't trade $5 bills for 3 $ones. That's about the ratio you'd get for trading into a mainland U.S. timeshare. It just doesn't make dollars and sense.

Thank you. The fees are $900 a week for a 1bedroom

Which resort?

I own at Maui Beach Vacation Resort and last year deposited my weeks (2). I got 18 TPU' s each because I deposited late - it would have been 36 TPU's each if I had done it sooneer.

We own a 3 BR at Maui Hill. "IF" we traded through RCI the week is worth 35 TPUs. But we trade through Trading Places Maui as we like to trade back into Maui Hill and they have the best inventory. Maintenance fees for the 3 BR are $1244/year.
