Hi I have the opportunity to by a 2/2 EVEN year Marriott Timberlodge Timeshare in South Lake Tahoe Platinum Summer Resale for $3100. I live in the Bay Area so Timberelodge is a good choice for me (I'm a single mom of 2) as I can drive.
1. Anyone know how easily I can book summer on these?
2. I understand I can split them (ie. do 1/1 and 1/1 for a total of 2 weeks in the summer, but can I also split them in Weekdays / weekends (ie. I don't know if I want to spend an entire week there?).
3. Are there additional fees if I split within Marriott TimberLodge?
4. How many points does this covert too if I choose not to use it?
5. The "ODD" years I don't have the timeshare, do I get special prices to use Timberlodge? or Other Marriott locations?
6. Is it free parking when I visit Timberlodge? (I heard it can be $30/night otherwise)

Thank you in dvance for all your help. Apologies, for all the questions, always a little nervous spending this much $$$ and for the future too.

What makes you think you can convert this to points? You can't. Buying on the resale market does not allow any point conversion. A week is a week and your check in days will always be on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday (for an entire week).

You can use it during an even year IF you deposit it into Interval International and make a request for the even year. If this is a week that can be locked off then you have the potential for two trades as opposed to one trade. Marriott does currently charge a $90 Lock Off Fee.

Others should be able to answer some of your other questions. I would suggest to get all your questions answered prior to making any commitment.

Consider spending $15 and become a member of TUG. The best $15 you can spend!

Apologies. I didn't realize its not in the point system, just a transfer into Interval. What are the benefits of being a TUG member? I donated to them last year, but I remember the membership being much more expensive than $15.

I'm not sure if still available or if it is even available to resale units but I use to split my Tahoe week all the time into 3 night stays and 4 nights. I've owned since 2004 and I've never had trouble booking a summer week. Summer weeks do not include 4th of July week though that is a platinum week. Sometimes I have trouble if I pick the South Lake Tahoe Celebrity Tournament weeks in mid July.

4. How many points does this covert too if I choose not to use it?
A recent resale purchase is not eligible for points conversion unless you jump through some hoops ($$$.) You may want to consider reading the sticky:

6. Is it free parking when I visit Timberlodge? (I heard it can be $30/night otherwise)
Parking for 1 car is free if you are staying during an ownership visit. 1 car parking is included for studio, 1 car parking is included for 1 bedroom, but only 1 car is included for 2 bedroom. (Or, 1 + 1 = 1....)
If you extend a stay via nights rented through Marriott.com, you have to pay for parking on those nights.

2. You will be able to split the unit into a studio and 1br unit. You can stay a week in the studio then the next week in a 1br. You do not have to book the weeks for different dates if you wish.
I believe you can still do short weeks but I donot know if you have to do it as the whole 2br or you can still do it after you lock off to a studio and 1br. If you can do short weeks, 3 days will be on fri-mon and the other 4 days will be mon-fri. You cannot do 2 weekends with one short week. All you are really doing is breaking up a Friday to friday week long stay.

3. $90 to lock off a 2br unit into studio and 1br.

4. No points as this is an outside resale week. Only weeks bought from Marriott or pre 2010 are eligible to trade for DC points.

5. Yes as an owner you can rent rooms with a 25% discount at vacation club properties. I think the code is 4VC for a week owner.

6. Parking is included when you are using your week or renting from an owner. If booked through marriott.com you pay the parking fee.
Studio, 1br and 2br units get 1 self parking and 3br units get 2 self parking for free.

If you have any questions post away and I am sure you will get a lot of help from the owners here.

I recall that the parking is via a valet, but no charge (except that most people tip the valets.

You are probably right as grand residence is valet only.

I am a new Marriott resale week owner, locked off my 3 br and deposited the 2br. Before I made the request, there was a button to split the week.

Assuming you have the option of a lockoff, it's either or on locking off or splitting into a 3 & 4 day stay. Covid craziness aside, you can't do both. The split stay is normally a 3 day weekend and a 4 day week day stay. Usually they set the days that can be used and the only examples I've seen personally would be Fri-Sunday set for the weekend stay. I hear rumors that there are a few properties that allow one to use just single days but you can't just do weekends. Not every resort has the split stay option, you'd need to check for yours.

We will be staying in a 1BR at Timber Lodge for a few days in a couple weeks. Only been there once. Any recommendations regarding unit location/view to request would be appreciated.

Best regards.

See notes from a July stay. I would ask for a room that won’t be impacted from the repainting (i.e. window covered by tarp.)

Hopefully you’ll have a fancy new TV :)

regarding rooms, I usually prefer the Gondola view, with pool view as second choice.

I had Gondola view rooms twice last winter. On Saturdays and Sundays there is EDM music from the Fire and Ice bar. Luckily on Sunday I was skiing and otherwise in and out of my room so it was not too bad. Saturday, my check in day, was tough. The rest of the week was nice. YMMV.

My preference is a pool view room.

Thanks for that information. We will request a room unaffected by the painting.

6. Parking is included when you are using your week or renting from an owner or using DC Points.

6. Parking is included when you are using your week or renting from an owner or using DC Points and when staying on II exchanges.

I feel compelled to add this due to all the confusion about parking at the Timber Lodge.

If you are in a three bedroom unit you get two cars included.

It’s a great place. I’m looking forward to being there in January. Hopefully with several feet of snow on the mountain. And fresh powder too.

Correct, one you lock off, you can't then split the week.

Correct, that's what I said. Either lockoff or split week, not both.
