I'll try to be brief.

I purchased a timeshare w/ Vacation Village Resorts. 1 week & 44k pts. each year with RCI.

I'd like to rent out. Use the points for a popular location & week. Been reading websites galore that I cannot do this unless its my deeded location/ week.

However, if I purchase a guest certificate for the location I'd like to rent out, could I then have little to no trouble renting and doing this frequently?

Or if there is another way you guys know to make this work, please let me know. Thanks.

RCI does not permit you to rent their exchanges

It happens but it's not allowed

You can only rent the timeshare you OWN - you can't rent exchanges.

I just love the logic ... I own the points and therefore I can rent my reservation!

You own WHAT is on the deeded ... not the RCI points reservation which you need an RCI Gift certificate. See the difference?

If not, follow this example: Your best friend ask you to watch their pool and give you the key to their house, so you can reset the pool breaker and use their bathroom, refrigerator and outdoor grill. Does that give you the RIGHT to rent their house? Yes, they gave you the keys ... yes, they said you can use stuff inside the house ....

PS Downside ... your "renters" get refused access to the unit and resort OR they are forced to pay RENT for their stay at the resort ... guess who gets sued!

Yes, you can get a Guest Certificate and give away a vacation to a friend/family etc. However, both RCI and II prohibit the rental of exchanges. This is detailed in the membership terms and conditions and is also listed on the respective companies guest certificates. If a rental is discovered because it was put an ad in a public forum or discovered from some other reason, both the reservation and the membership are subject to cancelation.

But in defense of a new buyer, it is difficult to know the rules when your first exposure was a recent sales presentation where it was stated or at least heavily implied that renting out exchanges is allowed and expected as part of the purchase and membership.

He/she came here did some research, asked questions and now knows.
