Finally got my JetBlue FF flights to Cancun last night at 2 am, for our Feb trip to Aventura Palace- and could only get Sunday-Sunday tickets. So, we check out of AP Sat and thought about heading into Cancun for our final night. We have never been there and also, it is much nearer the airport for our return Sunday. We own at Club Regina so though of staying there and checking out the place. We'd like a hotel in a good walkable location with some bars/restaurants, though not in the thick of things as our carousing days are over. Also, it will be our one night of no All inclusive so we'd like to eat at a terrific restaurant. We like seafood and Mexican and just about anything. (We could take a cab so that is not an issue.) But looking for a hotel with some things to do nearby. Is the Westin a good location? What recs do you folks have for hotel and restaurant? Many thanks from this Cancun newbie.

I can tell you were not to stay... The Marriott Casa Magna

We did just the same as you, but stayed 2 extra nights at the Marriott to get a better price on the flight. The hotel was beautiful, the pool was beautiful, but we didn't hardly sleep. There is an echo chamber effect from their lobby, and it was miserable since our room was a few floors above the lobby. I would not stay there again :(

The Club Regina at the Westin is one of the closest if not THE closest to the Airport. We own there and found the food at the Westin better than the Club Regina. Service at both was excellent.

The location is at the southern end of the Hotel/Condo/Timeshare strip on the beach. We stayed there and usually took the public bus to other locations. Cheap, frequent and convenient. Nothing else is within walking distance but the bus ride from the Westin to town covers the entire strip and is around 20-30 minutes IIRC.

Cheers

We went on travelocity and got a decent price on the Omni. It was pretty nice - just a basic hotel room, but nice pools, and the price included an excellent brunch buffet.
