We will be flying in to Philadelphia 8/17 and staying for 9 nights. Plan on spending time in Atlantic City. Would also like to stay a few nights closer to New York City so that we can spend a few days in the city. Perhaps along the coast or a cute town inland. Do not want to spend a lot of money, however I am spoiled as usually trade for Marriotts. As it is the last moment places along the coast seem to be booked. Any suggestions?

My favorite hotel near NYC is the Short Hills Hilton. It is in a very wealthy NJ Suburb. They offer free town car service to the mall accross the street that is a very upscale mall with fine dining.

The rooms there start about $200/night. We usually go for a Tower room so we get free snacks and soft drinks and continental breakfast.

It is 26 miles from NYC.

it is not a shore town but the hotel is really nice.

Have you looked in the B & B registry for shore towns. There are quite a few in Bay's Head and Pt Pleasant. Then you can hop on the Jersey Coast line straight into Penn Station in NYC. You can walk to the train station in both towns from the Beach so you won't even need to park your car. Both are about 45-55 minutes from the Fairways. We go to the Fairways a lot and love it there. In fact some family members and my husband are there now.

I stayed in Princeton, NJ and took the NJ Path into NY City...however, if you want to stay in NY (which I highly recommend if this is your first visit) than Priceline is a good / cheap place to start.
