Americans can be morons when it comes to vaccines. "I got the flu from a flu shot", "it enriches Big Pharma", "vaccines don't work", blah blah blah, all big piles of poo. The simple fact is, Influenza kills. If you're a senior citizen, have a weak immune system from chronic illnesses, etc you need a yearly vaccine. Will you be 100% covered? Maybe. The Flu vaccine does not take effect for a few days after, so you can still get it between the time you get the injection and when the body is fully immunized. Once you're fully immunized, you will either not get the flu for a year, or you may get a weak strain (shorter duration), assuming you were exposed to it.

If you don't get it, you're not immunized, you simply weren't exposed to it.
