Hello all!
We're headed to NV at the Grand Mayan level , which is cool, but I just discovered that it's a Hotel room only. (we got the trip from certificates with a cruise package).
I'm wondering if they will offer a room upgrade to a kitchen, or even to a higher level if we sit through the tedious hard sale.
We've always been given a room upgrade in exchange for that 90 min. pound of flesh at Acapulco and RM (several times). last time at RM, we were swapped into in the Jungle for our MP trip.
What are the chances at NV for this type of offer? We're going on the 11th through the 18th so it's not as heavy travel time as the previous weeks but still in peak time.
This will be our first time@ NV, we've always gone to RM.
I wonder if we could just offer money for a higher level? The GM level isn't the problem, it's the lack of Kitchen that we don't want.

Also, I think I've read that there's issues getting out of the resort and coming back with groceries. Has this been fixed? Has there ever been a problem getting off the NV campus? What's the best grocery stores? Is this easy Bus land, or is it a Cab travel area like Acapulco?

The GM "hotel rooms" should come with a coffee maker & small bar fridge

The question is availability of a GM one bedroom when you arrive ( Jan 11-18 ) - if your willing to go to the presentation .
Vidanta NV has 6 GM building so it is possible even for mid Jan.

You can walk the beach to get to OXXO - about 100 yds from Vidanta's Sea Garden property .
There is a nice Saturday Farmers Market right behind OXXO if your arrival on the 11th is early enough.

Cabs to Mega or Walmart NV are under $10 USD each way ( about $7 is my recollection)

Thanks for the info. Will look for the OXXO. Sounds good and close as well.
Like most people, we're highly allergic to the sales pitches and aren't willing to endure another unless there's an upgrade. We always like to cook breakfast or snacks at least three mornings while Vidanta'ing. Also, we're looking forward to spending a lot of time in PV away from the resort.

There's a bus stop across the street from the OXXO, between it and the Sea Garden. You can catch an ATM bus from there to downtown PV for 17 or 18 pesos; they run every 20 minutes except on Sundays when it is every 40 minutes. The "Directo" goes down that way immediately while the "Riu" goes up North almost to Bucerias (around Villa Del Palmar Flamingos) before heading South; they wind up at the same place and are marked on the windshield. The ATM bus terminal is a couple blocks South of the soccer fields across from Buganvilias and within walking distance of the Malecon. You can also catch a cab near the OXXO typically for less than at the Vidanta taxi stand and some collectivos stop there.

We always bring backpacks to take with us when we walk out to do our shopping. Last trip down, I saw a long-time Vidanta guest walking back from the OXXO dragging her wheeled carryon suitcase, which struck me as not as good an outcome.

There's another good market Thursday evening at Marina Vallarta and a Tuesday morning one near the casino in Nuevo Vallarta.

At NV now. OXXO was short on many items after the weekend.
A cool freebie event yesterday, Little Christmas, was huge amounts of Rosca de Reyes cakes being served at Santuario. We got 2 baby Jesus’, so I guess the tamales are on us Feb first.

Thanks fellow Tuggers for the informative suggestions and knowledge. Will arrive on Saturday, looking forward to our first NV visit....Not looking forward to trading 90 mins for the chance of an upgrade.

90 minutes? LOL
I wish
More like 4+ hours

90 minutes is just breakfast. Presentation starts after that.

Yeah, but I think the 90mins is the minimum...at least that's what we had in the past. The best we've done was about two and a half hours. If they offer us the upgrade at checkin, then we will take it. If not, then we will enjoy what we have.

Checked out of NV MP today and now at Buganvilea PV.
We declined the presentation and had a fifth floor suite facing the Santuario.
The last two nights the music blasted well past 2AM!!
I know because I couldn’t sleep through the pounding drums and bass thumping! Ridiculous
The MP location is ideal between the nearness to La Plaza and GM restaurants, but...
Looking to Sea Garden in the future.

Ok we’re here.. arrived on Sat, and are in Grand Luxxe building III in a studio. We made the Faustian bargain and will submit our lives for deep immersion into extreme sales this Thursday.
We really wanted a kitchen but this is fine. We bought a meal coupon set, and plan on going into town Tuesday Wednesday and maybe Friday.
Right now we’re headed to the beach to get some sun and surf.

Anyway - warm sunny beach is better than cold Canada in January / even if you have to do the sales dance
Enjoy the breakfast(s)

******
We are at MP-PV Marina in Feb / may have to do the dance then -

Loved the MP PV marina last January. We’ll try there again, but no “dancing “ anymore for me. Guy at PV Mega quickly offered 300 US and airfare, but I just as quickly declined.;)

This is rough down here. I just got up for the third time to move the umbrella. We are holding up alright for now. ;)

They'll actually move them for you if you want; you deserve to just relax while on vacay....

Were you both able to delay the Sales Pitch beyond the first day and get some sort of "gift"
Do you expect to get an upgrade to a different room?
If you don't mind, how much did you pay for the meal coupons? Were they consecutive days?

Best of luck with the Sales Pitches.

We will be there Spring Break and are contemplating the sales pitch to get an upgrade, but with it spring break, not sure if any upgrades would really be available.

woj027,
They gave us the room location we wanted when we signed up for the sales presentation. We may have received this room anyway, but I doubt it. Two free messages were a bonus. The 10% off food and grocery charges should be about $100. The food card they gave us is not a big deal. We received a free bottle of wine at dinner the other night, that might be the only benefit we get. (we don’t normally go to the breakfast buffets). At the GB they approach you after check-in, but before you get your room assignment. We didn’t get what we wanted from the first person we met with (just trying to convince us to go to the update!) So, of course the manager came over with a more detailed offer and guarantee of the room. In GB, 7th floor, ocean view. We accepted that. I’m not expecting anything from tomorrow mornings “update” other than to get out of there in under 4 hrs with my financial situation unchanged!

At GM check-in we asked if we could get a larger room with a kitchen, rather than a studio, but they said they were fully booked. Then they sent us for our welcome refreshment where the pretty sales lady offered us a GL studio in exchange for the “update” presentation.
Sigh...
Well, we did want a better room.
We also got the “black card”= store discounts, 10%off our final bill, 2for one meal at Havana Moon.
We didn’t get the free spa massages but we did get the spa discounts which come with the black card.
We got a 9th floor GL studio in GL tower 3.
Presentation is Thursday morning (yikes).
Ain’t buying nothing.

How did it go?
Did you survive the onslaught? What were they pushing. How pushy were they?

Probably a little late this time, but one never-fail presentation shortener I used to employ was to print out several eBay ads for the resort I was going to a presentation (or 'update') at. When the sales weasel put the squeeze on, I'd just whip the ads out and ask if they'd match prices. Meeting over.

Not so many eBay listings for Vidanta now.
