Anyone else watching this series?

Santa Anita Racetrack, as depicted in the series, reminds me of some royal court back in the days of yore. All manner of people live a life centered on the track, which is a world in a bubble that exists apart from everyone else, with arcane behavioral mores that only make sense at the track. And all these people living their days trying to be sure their actions do not reveal their intent. It's fascinating and very well done overall- writing, acting, the overall look and sound, all are superb.

Two serious thumbs up. Between Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, and now Luck, HBO has the only shows on television right now that I can't wait to see. Luck is a bit of sustence until Game of Thrones returns next month.

Aw, that's a shame.

I am not aware of what the first two injuries were, but the third one is a "thing" horses do and it's not really preventable. When I was in veterinary school, I spent a month caring for a horse with that exact injury. It was very dangerous, the horse's balance was off and nearly every day it almost fell over onto me (which would have killed me). Eventually the insurance money ran out and the horse was euthanized, which honestly should have been done right after the initial injury.

That was a beloved horse obviously, well-cared for by her owner. Stuff like that absolutely happens to horses without anyone being negligent or abusive.

Al Swearengen- Best character ever.

I agree!
All the characters were great. Incredible dialog, also.

Best series ever, IMO.

It's a shame they did not finish the series. David Milch needed another full season to tell the story, but HBO ran into money problems with ROME. They offered a 2 hour wrap-up to conclude the series, but Milch refused to short cut it. I'm sure there is more to it than that, but we are left hanging.
