I booked our 2009 week at Canyon Villas last March and put in an exchange request for Maui Ocean Club and the two Marriott resorts in Kauai, with a choice of 2 different weeks this March, within any checkin day. Within a day or two, I was surprised to get a confirmation certificate for the Waiohai Beach Club in Maui. So anything is possible! We had a 2 BR unit and have received a 2 BR unit, although it is in the "island view" category.

Congrat's !!!

How were you notified (Confirmation Certificate) ???
Email...
Snail Mail...
Jungle Tom Toms ???

Congrats!

Call your advisor and have her add a building choice. Ask for an INTERIOR facing room.

See the last post of this thread for a layout.

I received the Confirmation Certificate by email.

The certificate itself does not indicate what type of room we have, other than that it is a 2 BR villa. From a suggestion I read on these posts, I looked up my reservation on the Marriott.com website, where it shows I have an Island View villa, which is what was deposited by the owners.

I will definitely be contacting my Marriott advisor and the resort directly to request an interior island view as opposed to the parking lot island view.

First and foremost - the Resort does make room assignments, but you can call Marriott and ask them to add a buidling request to your notes.

Then call the resort and do the same. Be persistent, as the resort will say, "We don't have your reservation information yet." Ko Olina took my request last July for my stay this coming summer. Followup with a fax if you want (I never have) and a phone call at about 14 days out. My last call to BeachPlace at about 10 days out, the lady told me she already had my request on file, as I had requested it immediately after I traded in.

When I booked my ownership week at Waiohai last March (for this March), I again placed building and floor requests with my VOA. I called the Waiohai resort a few days ago (21 days out), and, just like BeachPlace, was told that they already had my building and floor requests.

UPDATE !!!
Okay folks, I goofed up.... AGAIN !
I misread JayPea's post.
I thought he/she said:
"I received the Confirmation Certificate by mail (aka: Snail Mail.. USPO)"

Sorrrrrry !

I received the Confirmation Certificate by email.....

Yikes... I was told on another post that you had "24-Hours" to cancel a "hit".

By the time snail-mail arrived, the 24-hour window has slammed shut.

Maybe I just learned something new. I did not know that you can look up the reservation on the Marriott.com website. I have two Marriott internal exchanges coming up for March and May. I'll have to try that to see what's listed.

I'm assuming you're talking about the Marriott hotel website and not my-vacation.com.

Yes... they mean the Marriott Hotel website. But first you need to key in your confirmation number and then, the reservation will show up.

Go into the marriott.com website. After logging in, you can click on change/cancel reservations. If your week is not listed automatically, then you need to search for your reservation by the number listed on your confirmation certificate. Once the initial listing comes up for your week, you can click on "My Stay: View Details" which will forward you to a full description of your reservation, including the room type. In our case, it did not have a code for the room type, but straightforwardly notes "Islandview Owners" under the date of our checkin.

There are a few more buttons to click on this, such as "Room Preferences". But when I clicked on that, I only got options to request extra pillows, low or high floor or an accessible room. There is no comment section to enter a request for room location or view.

Both the Custom House and Newport Coast come up without listing any sort of view catagory. I was hoping the maybe the Custom House would list either Harbor or City view. I was able to go ahead and get our Marriott Rewards numbers on the reservations ahead of time rather than waiting until we arrived.

Newport Coast's staff called a couple of weeks ago to ask if we had any prefererence in room location. I called back but on received a voicemail service. I told them what we would prefer. I alwas keep in mind that, when we're exchanging in, we're lower on the ladder than those that paid to own there. While we would always prefer the most conveniect location with the best view, most of the time we're just very happy to be there.

As far as I know there are no view a categories at Newport Coast. There is definitely some rooms better than others but no categories like ocean view.

I was trying to help a friend do this. Where do you find the Marriott confirmation number; she can't seem to find it. Is it the typical 8 digit number starting with an "8"?

Thanks

That should be it.

If it's an exchange through I.I., the confirmation number is the same as the reservation number on the first page.

She was only finding a number beginning with a "0," which was probably a II number. She's not terribly computer savvy, so if anyone can detail how to find it I'd appreciate it.
