Thanks to all for your comments regarding excursions when we get to the Islands.

What I would like to find out is what kind of clothes should the wife and I bring for the boat ride across the pacific? What's the temperature during the day and evening during our crossing from LA - > Hawaii -> LA? Is it cool or will we need to bring "warmer than summer" clothing?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on the time of year. I went in December, and it was quite cool the first three/four days and also the same amount after we left the islands. Also rough coming back to LA for three days, but that was the time of year, I think.

Most people will go with the 'smart casual' dress code. Nice shorts daytime. Collared shirts/polos. Obviously, sunning by the pools will be in swimsuits and some of those are pretty skimpy. After dark, long pants for the guys. There will be a couple of 'formal nights'. Slacks/sport coat would be about minimum, and tux's will be common. Ladies will usually wear cocktail dresses or pantsuits. As has been said, outerwear would depend on the season, but usually a light jacket/sweater is about the most I have with me. Check weather for your departure city for a week or so before you head out.

While the ship is underway, you won't be spending a lot of time outdoors. Even if the temp is moderate, there is that pesky +-25mph wind missing up your coif. There are glassed-in areas around the pools for sunning, and blankets will be provided by the crew, but for me anyway, I'll save my sunbathing for the low- speed lollygagging around the islands. Ymmv.

Feb in L.A. can be anywhere from lows in the high 40s to highs in the 80s. The closer to the ocean, the less variation in temp, but the current that flows along the US West coast is NOT all that warm. After a day or two at sea, it will be warmer.

I did the cruise around the Hawaiian Islands during the summer and they kept the air conditioning so cold inside the ship that everyone was wearing jackets morning, noon and night. The Pacific during the winter is cold. You will need winter clothes. Once you get to Hawaii, it should be nice during the winter, but the high is usually 78 degrees, so maybe shorts and T-shirts when out on the islands.
