Lt. Gov Josh Green is optimistic that the state will reach the threshold of 60% fully vaccinated in the next 8 to 10 days, but said that getting to 70% will be “a slog.”
This morning on Spotlight Hawaii, Green said reaching 70% will be a significant challenge, because over 200,000 children under 12 who cannot receive the vaccine are included in the total population.
He explained that means that 82% of residents who are eligible need to get the vaccine for the 70% threshold to be reached, which would allow for COVID-19 restrictions to be lifted.
Green said it could take eight weeks or more to get there, and if that does not happen, he may push Gov. David Ige to consider other metrics to drop COVID-19 limitations.
