We have a week at Hilton Bay Club Waikoloa, which we haven't seen yet. We can go in 2013; this year is too busy.

We would spend a week there, and also go to Maui, probably Wailea, for at least a few days. I'd love to see the whales, but also would like some warm swimming water, and decent airfare from the east coast.

Is it possible to get it all in Feb-March? Would we need to miss the whales to get warm swimming water?

If we do go after whale season, I heard from you folks I think that the end of May or early June beats the summer airfares. True? Are winter fares just as high or higher than summer?

We haven't been there since 1989.

Suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Oahu Weather

I can't speak for the other island too much, but Oahu weather has been great this year. We had lots of rain up untill Christmas, then it stopped. It did rain a bit last weekend, but that's only because I was visiting Aulani. Now its bright sun shine again, go figure. Even with the cloudiness, it and breeze we were able to swim in the pool and ocean. Ocean temps don't really change much between winter and summer.

The weather and water temp doesn't change much year-round - what does change is the amount of rain - winter is the rainy season - it's also when the whales are there. Sept. up to Thanksgiving is the lowest season, with the lowest airfare. The whales are not there in May-June.

The ocean waters are also rougher during the winter months.

So many things to consider--airfare, rain, availability, whales! If I plan 2013 on Maui, do I need to avoid Ironman (I think Kona) Oct 12? I'm excluding the Jewish holidays Sept. 4-14 and my window is getting narrower.

No. The Ironman "traffic" doesn't impact the other islands.
