Have you replaced your laptop with a tablet ?

Tried to pay my Chase/Amazon bill over the weekend. Got a message that my desktop software was no longer compatible. Went to pay my bill with the iPhone Cliff gave me as a Christmas present in 2018, I couldn’t get logged in. Finally used his 2022 vintage phone to pay my bill. The handwriting is on the wall in big red letters that I’m going to need to spend money on new tech stuff.
Yeah, I hear ya.

I had to replace my Samsung S10 (with which I was very happy) because applications were breaking or refusing to load/upgrade. I replaced it with an S25 Ultra. The first thing I don't like is that new phones do not allow you to add a micro SD card for storage. I had to buy the Ultra because it was the only one offered by my carrier that had 512GB of storage. I'm staying with a carrier purchased phone because there are perks that are offered through my account, but are not available on a user provided phone, The other thing I don't like about the Ultra is its larger size. It is not quite a Phablet, but it is larger than I prefer.

It was a quick delivery. Ordered yesterday and they showed up last night or early this morning sometime. Both of them loaded up real easy with a qr code. I need to add our reading and messages apps.

Like others, I keep a laptop for better typing, but also the optical drive. I have old video games I like to play periodically (Railroad Tycoon a fave for a rainy weekend when I’m sick). Day to day I have iPad, I don’t download apps to the phone.

What software needed updating? I'm not aware of any desktop software to access Chase other than a browser.

Back in the day
LOL. Love your title. "Have you ...?" 2012 called and it wants its question back. Apple alone has sold about 750,000,000 iPads. then add all the other tablets.
When I call CS people about a problem on their websites, they are almost all surprised that I am using a PC, not a tablet or a phone.
I could start listing lousy layouts of various websites that are due mostly to
A) the programmers desire to make it look / work good on a phone and to re-use as much code as possible across platforms
B) the younger programmers mental bloc that maybe somebody out there might prioritize the dinasour PC. It is a mental bloc to so many younger people.
"Use a PC? WTH for? I'm not a programmer or an accountant."

Tablets mostly stink, but good for watching videos in constrained &/or mobile places, like a car, a treadmill, etc. Also cheaper in case you drop it.
Security? I wouldn't do ANYTHING on a tablet that I thought needs security.

Otherwise, I do everyone on my phone. My wife does use a Samsung tablet but she mostly uses her phone.
There it is. It took me years to figure out websites were getting worse because the programmers were "phone-first".

Ugh... Just my personal opinion here. I much prefer my laptop to a phone and tablet as I reply on my phone.
Right with you on that! Love my laptop. Love the keyboard to type quickly.

I have a crappy Samsung tablet, a nice big one I bought at Costco a few years ago, and nothing but problems with that thing. I go to use it and it resets constantly. It lost my Candy Crush progress, and it's just a piece of junk.

Rick bought me an ipad and it's bliss in comparison to Samsung, but still I only play a few games on it and watch movies on the plane. SO much better than Samsung.

I never noticed websites getting worse. 🤙🏻

We had ipads in the past and they worked pretty good. Everything else we had was android so it was a pain to have so many different accounts that we ended up picking android. So far, everything has synced up well between our Samsung phones, the new Samsung tablets, my laptop, the Samsung tv's and sound bar. I haven't tried to connect to the Samsung stove yet but I'm thinking it will connect when I want it to.

I like a key board too. I'm kind of curious how well the keyboard case works. In a few days I should have it.

I'm using the Samsung tablet on tug without a physical keyboard. It seems faster than than my laptop top. The problem is without a case
, this is difficult to hold for posting.

Windows from a million years ago, I suspect.
If you don't know how do you know it needed updating. Do you not have current versions of browsers? You may have a virus or malware.

It's probably because you don't have to use the Worldmark website, lol. It's been down for maintenance since yesterday. Again.........

I have replaced both my laptop and tablet with a 7" phone. Personally I have very few things, if anything, that I can't do online or file wise with a big phone.

Last winter while in Puerto Vallarta with only a phone and a Fire Tablet I was able to use my phone to DocuSign for a timeshare. I found the timeshare while browsing with the Fire Tablet. I was able to do everything with the phone including taking a picture of a document to have it printed which we signed, photographed and sent back.

I've toyed with the idea of getting a larger phone for everything but I use my phone daily for Spotify music so I like it to fit in my shirt pocket. I think the Samsung flip phone could work but wow they are a bit pricey for someone like me that might ruin it with my outdoor activities.

I have a desktop with 32" monitor. The desktop is a little under 3 years old. I had it custom built by Micro Center. I picked out all the parts I wanted and they assembled it - including a GTX 4090, which was the top of the line video card at the time. Not only was I using it for work, but I am also a PC gamer.

However, these days I am not longer able to use my desktop for work, as my company has locked out personal PCs. I now use a work provided laptop for work at home that is hooked up to the same 32" monitor and the same wireless keyboard and trackball, so it is similar to a desktop.

I am not a fan of laptops and their mediocre keyboards. Tablets are ok for taking on vacation if I want a bigger screen, but that is about it - for me.

I prefer my laptop but I do have an iPad with cellular as well as wifi. I take it mainly on trips. I have the Magic Keyboard but it's not great to type on, especially in the dark as it doesn't light up the keys.

My daughter is using a projector key board. She uses this with her phone. Never knew these existed. I'm planning on trying it out and maybe getting one.

I agree it's probably the browser, but depending on the version of Windows being used, it's possible that the OP can't update the browser to a current version.

I used to travel with my tablet and a case/w keyboard. But I got a new carbon cased Lenovo with 1T SS HD small 13" laptop, and at less than 2 lbs total. It was lighter and skinner than the tablet.

So it all depends on what you want with a keyboard. As a touch typist with big hands, I hate really small and virtual keypads, as I end up hitting 3 keys instead of the one I want.

No still using the laptop and like it.

I've been using the Samsung Tablet to get use to it. It's way better than the Fire Tablet. It's definitely not better than my Chromebook tablet but I think it will do regarding trips. The thing about going to Mexico is they stopped with the red light green light at customs and look at a persons luggage more than before. It's very subjective on who they pick. The rule that is sometimes not enforced is you can bring one phone and one computing device like a lap top or tablet. They can impose a duty on one of the devices if you bring both a tablet and lap top.

Last year we were chosen for the bag search at PVR customs. We were aware of the laptop / tablet rule so we were fine.

We were having that problem too Cindy. My wife's Samsung tablet was turning off by itself. I looked it over and and finally figured out its the case. The power and volume buttons are protected with rubber. The piece of rubber that protects the power button was touching the power button and turning the tablet off. I took off the case and cut the area covering the volume and power button off the case. Everything seems to be working now.
