Have you purchased Marriott reward points?

We often read disussions about the opportunity to purchase reward points from Marriott for $.0125, or $625 for 50,000 per year.

Recently I was tempted to purchase from Marriott so I could exchange for points. Then I realized, why would I do that when I don't even take advantage of the points for sale. The only time I've purchased was back in early 2007 when you could buy unlimited amounts for $.01 per point. I bought 200,000 points then, but should have purchased more.

I started thinking.... how many Tuggers actually purchase points from Marriott?

I bought 50,000 about two months ago. Didn't need them for a particular vacation but just wanted to boost the point count. Next month I will purchase 50,000 and put them in hubbie's MR account.

I've done it twice, once for a hotel reward and last time for a travel package and I plan on doing it again next year.

I meant to buy a bunch when the restrictions were lifted last year ...... but I never quite got round to it and when I finally did the option to buy was limited to 50K.

I made my first 50K purchase last December and plan on purchasing 50K x 2 this year.

No I haven't purchased any extra. I have over 400,000 points just from using the Marriott credit card. I dont think they are a good deal unless you are able to utilize the vacation packages for a week or longer and utilize airfare. In most cases they seem to be worth about $.01 a point or less (for less than a week stays).

I just returned from Paris Champs-Elysees. Cost of standard room for 7 days, was $6500. Airfare was $1750each times two-$3500. Total cost would have been $10,000.
Travel package with cat 7 hotel--270,000 points

Travel packages are a good deal if used correctly.

I also should have bought more points at $.01/point when there was no limit.
