I assumed it was trash pickup to keep the bugs away. So they're snooping around the room, too.
Not necessarily “snooping around the room.” We’re often in the room when they come, and they just pick up the trash and leave. There are some reports of visits when guests were in the shower, napping, etc. that were conducted poorly, and I hope those CMs were retrained after complaints were made.

It really is inconsistent between the resorts. In March it was maybe every other day @okw January @VGC not once during the 6 night trip! Poly was consistent every day like clockwork.
I do cook minimum breakfast in the rooms daily so I tend to notice.

Especially right after the COVID re-opening staff was either skipping daily trash removal or being downright rude about it- had one at SSR threatening to call management because my son was napping on the couch and I asked him to come back a later. I told him don’t bother I will notify her myself and sent a text message. Yet the next SSR trip had a totally different and altogether pleasant experience.

This is our experience since the Mandlay, Las Vegas, horror and DVC’s way of trying to handle things. I can remember seeing “do not disturb “ signs hanging on doors 24/7. Normally, DVC, being a timeshare, would not vacuum, clean, take out trash, replace towels. You were expected to take your trash and recycling to the designated room. You were expected to wash your towels in the provided washer/dryer in your room (one bedrooms) or use the free facilities in the resort. On your fourth day, housekeeping would come in and change out your bath and kitchen towels and replenish soaps etc if needed. But only if your Do not Disturb sign was not hanging on the door and your room was not locked from the inside.
The crazy person at Mandaly had a do not disturb sign on his door for days (not a timeshare but you get the picture). Meanwhile he was stockpiling his room with weapons.
The hotel/timeshare industry needed to do something. Hence the daily trash pick up and room walkthrough. I’m fine with it, as we follow the guidelines. When in the room, we double lock the door and put out the room occupied sign. When we go out, we take the sign off the door. Some people leave the sign up because “we don’t want anyone snooping around”. And then get annoyed when someone is knocking on the door at 7 pm. Think about what could happen if someone is stockpiling weapons at a monorail resort.
Unfortunately that is the way the world is. We all need to be inconvenienced because of deranged people.
Since the shutdown, things have been inconsistent in this area. Disney has been having trouble hiring good people. They sure do make a good hourly wage now for jobs that require no kind of degree. I plan on putting my own security devices in my rooms now. I’m reading too many stories about employees being arrested. The latest was an employee working in a souvenir shop in Star Wars Land that was taking upskirt photos of females in the store. 500 of them…because he couldn’t find photos like that on porn sites. So I guess they are not really doing any background checks for employees making $18/hour.

The problem with most civilian background checks is that unless a person already has arrests/convictions on their record or has poor credit, the background check will come up clean. Typically all they do is run a criminal records check and a credit check. Aside from checks involving someone who is already a convicted sex offender, there is no way to know someone is a perv who is going to do something like that.

Government Secret/Top Secret clearances are a little different, but still have a lot of the same issues. The difference is that they may dig a little bit deeper or look at a longer period of your life for signs of poor character. In addition, for a Secret clearance they will send questionnaires to people you list as references/family members, and for Top Secret they will interview some of those people in person. Some of the investigation is more thorough than a civilian background check, but still, in general, unless you've already been arrested/convicted, have bad credit, or someone raises suspicions about your character or behavior in the questionnaire/interview, it will come up clean. Some people who will commit sexual crimes or steal or leak government secrets will get through because they simply weren't caught before or haven't yet acted out but will once the opportunity arises.

Their policy is to check the room daily and they will often, if not usually, enter even with the DNS sign out. They do not do daily housekeeping unless it's a cash stay.

One bad guy tried to light his shoes on fire on a trans-Atlantic flight in 2001, and we're still paying the consequences 20+ years later... Not sure what the TSA does to mitigate that type of risk (for non-TSA-pre passengers), but countries in Europe and also Israel don't feel the need to have everyone take off their shoes when they go through security. There are better ways...

One bad guy did a horrible thing in a hotel in Vegas, and we'll have to pay the consequences for decades to come... Personally, I'd be more worried about stuff getting stolen (albeit not necessarily at a DVC resort) versus the added "safety" of the daily snooping.

I don't disagree, just saying how they approach it. I'm not sure I ever knew truly why they were doing this, seems like a waste of their time and resources to me.

The daily checking of rooms is less about guest safety and more about having a legal defense when something goes wrong, and the hotel operator gets sued for millions.

We stayed at Disney's boardwalk last week and it was wonderful. My room was cleaned every day, a treat from everyday life. It was convenient and a great week.

We went to WDW several times this last year. One trip was with our daughter and daughter in law and two of our grandchildren (6 and 8). Our one on-site stay was at Bay Lake Tower in a theme park view 2 bedroom. It was fabulous! The grandkids enjoyed watching the fireworks in their pajamas from the pull-out bed and would go to sleep immediately afterwards. That stay had all of the Disney magic --- mainly because of having young children with us again.

We stayed off-site just the two of in a 2 bedroom at Cypress Harbor --- this is a lovely resort and the unit was excellent. There was nothing magical about the 20 minute drive to WDW.

We stayed at Sabal Palms with our daughter-in-law and 8 year old granddaughter. Our granddaughter enjoyed the resort and did not complain about being off property. She was happy to be going to WDW and I don't think the very short drive to the parks was noticeable to her.

Regardless of whether we were on-site or off, I used to enjoy cooking breakfast and dinner and we would eat lunch in the park. (I have just lost my love of cooking unrelated to timeshares).

My husband and I and our daughter in law are the only big Disney enthusiasts. Our other kids and their spouses are pretty disinterested in WDW.

We will be staying at Grand Floridian with our son-in-law and our 4 year old granddaughter in September. I am looking forward to the trip. Once that trip is finished, we won't be using our DVC points for any resort except for Old Key West (where we own) in the future. Since we get a car and we do rope drop, we now drive and pay for premium parking. It is more convenient than the bus.

But are they even doing a basic background check? They are so desperate for employees they were offering the world on a platter. So different from when I was seeking employment many years ago. $18/hr for housekeeping? No high school diploma or college required. so it’s not like they have loans to repay. i
I used to feel sorry for the housekeepers, but they are doing pretty well salary wise.
I disagree with what you say. Something unusual will pop up…but nowadays you can’t ask questions. If you do, you can lose YOUR job.

We were lucky to have a theme park view with standard view points when we took our granddaughter two years ago. You cannot put a price on the joy that is felt by a grandparent as they hold their grandchild on their balcony and watch the fireworks. Sounds like you had a fabulous time. Old Key West is such a great place too! So serene and removed from the craziness, but easy enough to hop a bus and join in.

Our kids are currently at Bonnet Creek, we are at OKW. I am listening to the fireworks from our unit.

I absolutely love staying here, but Boulder Ridge one bedroom was better (for me) last week. Rick loves OKW, but I am fond of anything in the Wilderness area. I think I would like glamping over there in one of the cabins, too.

I have to admit I am a bit excited about the DVC planned for Fort Wilderness. We recently did the hoop DeeDoo musical review for diner at the Fort. That whole place looks like so much fun!!!! BTW Hopp dee Doo has not changed from 43 years ago.

You can disagree all you want, but you'll be wrong. I work with background checks all the time. It's not going to turn up something if the person hasn"t previously been arrested. A background check doesn't just magically sense that someone is a creep.

Turns out that my kids don't care one bit about staying onsite. I still am enamored with the idea of being on Disney property, and I cannot explain it, except that I worked hard and spent money to acquire that ability to get Disney and by golly by gosh, I am going to stay at Disney.

Even when I have offered a 2 bedroom at OKW, our son and his wife are, "Meh," on staying at Disney. Our son didn't love the bus service after standing in line for almost an hour at the end of the night for a bus last year on 5/2. It was our granddaughter's birthday celebration with fireworks and dessert party. We said, "Oh, take the bus to Magic Kingdom, it will be easier than parking and driving." People in the line were irate as bus after bus came for other resorts, but OKW's line was very long and no buses.

When I tried to tell the kids that early admission was a good value, they dismissed it as, "We cannot get out of the unit that early." No more dining plan, not that it's a value. What other benefits of staying onsite for our kids and their little ones? Staying up late is not in the cards for them, either, not with babies who will only be 17 months old on the next trip.
We paid an insane amount of money for a suite at Art of Animation for my daughters first trip to DW Oct 2022 and tried buses before giving up and just paying for ubers to make the transit to the park calm and sane. It was so worth it. But for what I paid for that room I swore I would never do it again so I watched the market and got a below market deal through ROFR at Bay Lake Tower early this year with a boatload of extra points rolled into this year which has been great.
I was AMAZED our 1st stay in BLT May. We walked to the park for rope drop, met the princesses (with my 5 year old) did little mermaid, dumbo a few times, rode the train and ordered lunch from the old train circling the park, picked up and ate lunch and then within 15 minutes at 11:45am was back to the room, got bathing suits on and we were in the pool. 45 mins later we were back in the room napping. Being in the bubble on a 30 minute bus ride sucks - being in the bubble 15 mins walk to MK and 15 min Monorail to Epcot with skyliner access to HS? AMAZING. The other thing I have loved about Bay Lake Tower is the walk over to Contemporary and all the restaurants, including their quick serve which is the best I've eaten at so far. Quinoa kale salad? Yes please!

OKW and SSR are the farthest away from and longest rides to the parks. When I stay at those properties on cheap points or a traded week I will pay for ubers back and forth and make life a ton more enjoyable. I bet you could give your son and daughter in law Uber or Lyft cash and tell them skip the bus and that would make life in the bubble that much more enjoyable. Or if there is any chance to get into BLT I cannot recommend it strongly enough with little ones. (I will admit it's due for a full refurb - it's still got fold out couches instead of the murphy beds the newly refurbed properties have - but if someone needs a nap or is losing it and need to be in the pool BLT 15 mins from anywhere in MK is Disney World heaven on earth.

Congratulations! We very much like BCV and BWV...but BLT *is* our favorite DVC WDW resort. Not only for the reasons you mentioned but also for the 'extra' bathroom, the easy access to the other Monorail resorts, and getting to take the long Monorail run to our first day at EPCOT (we swap to the BCV/BWV half of our split stay at that point). Enjoy!

NONE! Looking for a good trader to purchase.
Is driving from an offsite Marriott Vacation Club property or Sheraton Vistana (20-40 minute drives depending on resort, plus dealing with parking fees and getting from parking to park) really terrible? Just booked 5 days in Disney and I can get a 2BR Sheraton Vistana unit for $350 for the whole week. Compare that to $700+ per night to stay in a studio on the Monorail and I'm having a hard time believing it could possibly be worth the extra... but I'm going to keep looking for at least a 1BR timeshare somewhere on the monorail (nothing on Redweek right now).

No, the drive isn't terrible, depending on traffic. It looks like they are widening I-4 to make it better, but traffic jams are the norm, no matter what time of day we go to Disney. To get to Disney from Vistana, you can always go to Hotel Plaza Boulevard and avoid I-4. It can be busy by Disney Springs, but once you get past that area, it's pretty smooth sailing

With Villages, you can always go I-Drive to the light at 535 and make the turn. It's a little longer but worthy of the $$$ savings. The traffic light is annoyingly long, but you hit it no matter where you are coming from.

It depends. If it's the only vaca in the past 2 years and you have young kid(s), then maybe yes. Our friends just paid $$$ to stay onsite for 5 nights, but used the early EMH and were "done" by 2pm each day, enjoyed the pools, activities, onsite restaurants. So, it was worth it to them. We choose a 1BR over a 2 BR off-site for our family, when it was $800 difference (TS annual/exchange fees) and felt it was worth it to us. And, older teens voted to stay in 1Br on pullouts over spacious 2BR to be at DVC.
We've also stayed off-site lots of time and driven. If everyone goes/returns same time and stays in park all day, no biggie. With 2-3 teens at different times, DH feels like taxi driver and then it's not a vaca for him. Uber might be a game changer for that for future visits.
