I'd like to sell my timeshare but I, like many others, was scammed by a company promising to sell my timeshare for a one time cost of $698.00.

Today, I received some information in the mail from a company called Timeshare Relief, Inc. The ad states that their service will legally separate owners from their timeshares. Does anyone know anything about this company or the services they're offering? Also, I was referred to a company called Timeshare Adventures, another upfront service company. This time I did not buy it.

Any help.....thoughts about Timeshare Relief, Inc.?

If you do a search for "post card company" on this site, you will probably find a lot of information about companies like the one you are referring to. Basically, they want you to pay them a certain amount of money, say $3000, and you will sign over a limited power of attorney for the timeshare week, and they will then sell it.

You would be better off selling it yourself on ebay with a no reserve auction, or on craigslist. Depending on what size unit and season you own, you could definitely get something versus paying someone $3000 to take it off your hands.

Good luck!

Thanks for the information! I had a feeling that there was a "catch" behind the ad.

Another thing I have noticed when they use those powers of attorney, they often do not record them in the county where the timeshare is located, making the deed out of your name invalid.

Click here for a nightmare scenario (hypothetical, of course) that could fill in some blanks.

What they should say is that they'll legally seperate you from you money. They are desperate act designed to take advantage of desperate people.

Or worse...

Another thing I have noticed when they use those powers of attorney, they often do not record them in the county where the timeshare is located, making the deed out of your name invalid.

Another PCC (more specifically, one called We Collect Timeshares, based in the state of Washington) got itself jammed up with state licensing authorities by never recording new deeds in their own name at all. They would apparently just "skip" that particular nicety entirely, while moving the interval along into its new deeded ownership. The state evidently took exception to this practice, based in large measure upon the fact that the PCC had / has no real estate license with which to be acting as "brokers".

I appreciate everyone's comments!

I searched for the "post card company" using the tug search engine. I was blown away by all of the information. The Timeshare Relief company would have been a complete waste of my time and no "$25 gift card" could have bought my time back or prevented the other impeding hassles.

I can't thank you all enough!! You've spared me from having to attend another torturous and painful presentation.
