Hi, headed to Atlantis next week, at Harborside. Would it be worth it for us to take our snorkel gear with us? I know I read something about a snorkel excursion, which we're not going to do, but is there an opportunity to snorkel on your own, and if there is, is it worthwhile to take your own snorkel equipment. We're getting two checked bags free, so no problem with space in throwing our snorkel masks (would not take fins) into the luggage.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I would not recommend it if you are not doing an excursion. There is not much to see with a snorkel at Atlantis, IMHO...YMMV.

There are a few snorkeling excursions that are available, that will pick you up at Harborside and take you out to different places.. ($$)..Plus Atlantis has "Snorkel The Ruins Of Atlantis" which is where you snorkel in the big aquarium with the sharks, rays and tropical fish ($$)..or at the Cove Beach or the Lagoon for free ..you can buy fish food at the Lagoon...
If you have room throw your mask in your suitcase, better have it than to wish you did....

Thanks, RAL. I figure if we're not taking our fins with us, the mask and snorkel won't take up too much room.

Snorkeling was ok at the Cove beach. A few fish to see, so why not take your snorkel and mask :)

I suppose it depends on what you intend to see and/or if you want to pay to snorkel in the lagoon as an activity. I think there is little to see in the free areas and not that much to see in the paid areas. Taking a tour is a different thing...IMHO, of course, YMMV.
