I would like to sell my timeshare at Harborside for $1. We have two kids now and the timeshare is no longer practical for us. Details: Harborside Resort II at Atlantis, Bahamas; Silver/Annual Floating; 1 Bedroom Villa that can sleep up to 4; worth 37,000 points (Staroptions). I have already paid the maintenance fee this year and I am not looking to be reimbursed for that. If you act quickly, you can be in the Bahamas this year for free (or, transfer to any of the other Starwood properties in the world). Thanks.

Who pays and how much is closing? I think it is quite expensive.

Harborside for $1

The bottom line is we have had two kids in the past three years and lots of things have changed. We have tried to be creative to keep using the timeshare but it just doesn't fit for us like it did when it was just the two of us. We have been to Atlantis several times and had a great vacation each time, but that was before the kids. Now, the logistics of taking two babies to the Bahamas is overwhelming.

We took another couple on one of our trips, and it was a lot of fun even with 4 adults. This timeshare is great for someone that does not have young children, and I guess we didn't think about that being a problem when we bought it. Hopefully there is someone out there that can make better use of it. Thanks.

Have you thought about trading to Myrtle Beach or Orlando for a few years until the kids are older? Normally, one wouldn't trade an expensive timeshare like Harborside to use in Myrtle Beach or Orlando. But the kids will grow fast and sooner than you think, and they'll most likely enjoy going to Harborside. Anyway, I just thought I'd mention it as an option.

Best wishes,

Glorian

We have traded to MB and the place we stayed wasn't that great. We are using last years trade to II to go to Orlando this year. As I said, we are doing what we can to use the timeshare, but I prefer to get out of it. It does not fit for us anymore and I don't want it anymore for other reasons also.

Did you stay at a Starwood resort? As a Starwood owner, you have priority for Starwood to Starwood trades, and they are usually very nice resorts.

When you put in a request with II for a Starwood resort, a Starwood owner will get the trade before a non-Starwood owner.

We did stay at a Starwood resort. We didn't use II for that transfer, we transferred within the Starwood website. We stayed at the Sheraton Broadway Plantation and the room was poor.

Life can be crazy with young children. As ours have grown I really appreciate the space of a timeshare for family vacations. You will vacation in the future, or not? I'd think long and hard before giving it up. If this is not a financial issue; If it's paid for and you can swing the maintenance fees, I'd rent it for now because when your kiddos are in the age range of being able to appreciate Disney, water slides, pools, etc. you'll want a timeshare to have room to prepare meals because it's cheaper, separate sleeping quarters because, well, kids stymie a couple's private time together, if you know what I mean.

I think you should really think about this as there are many ways to "use" a timeshare without giving it away.

Thanks. The thing is, I can stay in the same timeshares for less than my maintenance fee. For example, I stayed at a nice Hilton timeshare in Las Vegas for a week for $700. My maintenance fee is $1500.

The fact is a timeshare is supposed to save you money, but it does not. You pay anywhere from $8K to $50K up front for it and then pay maint fees that go up every year and can be ridiculously high if there is an assessment. There is no savings--it is a TOTAL RIP-OFF from top to bottom. With the current market, you can spend less money and actually own all 52 weeks of an actual piece of real property that is worth something. A timeshare is worth $0. The Federal and State governments should put the timeshare industry out of business if they cared for people at all, since last year alone everyday people were taken for over $11 Billion. With this kind of greed and injustice, it is no wonder we are $15 Trillion in debt and losing ground as a country.

I have a buyer that is interested

Thanks for the messages, but I have someone that is interested and I only have to pay $1,000 toward closing costs. If anything changes I will repost and reply to the priv messages. Thanks again.

This is not the way to get rid of your TS! :D

But since you asked, here's the problem with your TS:

1. You bought from the developer
2. You bought off-season

A resale week during high season would have been a much better purchase, that would still have good value - at a fraction of the cost.
