Just wondering how many others there are who are sheltering in place, and find ourselves spending inordinate amounts of time on TUG to occupy ourselves? Actually, in these times I find that whiling away my time on TUG is enjoyable, and keeps me connected with a set of "friends" whom I have come to love and appreciate over the years.

You know I'm spending lots of time here. I normally check in several times a day, but am currently doing a lot of couch time, with my computer on the coffee table in front of me. Easy to check what's happening, and contribute to those posts that need my twisted perspective. :)

Yeah. But truth told, I probably am not here a heckuva lot more than pre-CV-19. Maybe I need a life. No, I have more sometime now since cancelling all this year's trips, and the attendant planning. Still hopeful, but the reality kinda bites. If (boy, THAT'S a big word!) Some semblance of 'normal' comes about in half a year, I expect there will be a lot of travel opportunities for the prepared. Y'know, if it becomes clear that those who get infected and pull through have some immunity, there isn't much to stop their travels. And really, the mortality is in low single digits. 90some percent will pull through. Granted, we are in the extreme high risk group for multiple reasons, and are being careful, but it might happen.

I am spending about the same amount of time on TUG as before. I am still out 3 times a week for golf and doing alot more meal planning and cooking. Some of my time is now spent checking out different meat and produce online stores which ship since we don't have Instacart and we are not planning on going to the stores.

I am certainly here more lately.
Don't forget, or if you haven't seen it. Be sure to join us for the Virtual TUG Meet Up on YouTube tomorrow at 4pm eastern time. Is there a better way to spend more time sitting around home!

I am on line a lot anyway. But I really wish I could be actually doing something fun instead of always living a virtual life or just cleaning, cooking and doing laundry, bills and finances, and tending to other things in the house.

I am on Facebook a lot, also and sometimes on a local forum.

I try to exercise for an hour- I walk outside if the weather is nice. A lot of hills.

I saw a group from our development walking together this morning and then later on this afternoon someone walked by our house and invited us to walk with the group. They go out everyday at 10:30 unless it is raining so I intend on doing that starting tomorrow if weather allows. It's at least something. That is the kind of thing we moved here for.

Today was pretty much ice out, and there were boats on the lake. I kind of wish I had a small fishing boat to go out- not to fish but just float around the lake. That would be social distancing.

Hi Jim ,
I will refrain from commenting on point one / under the excuse of - self incrimination.
I do continue to look at winter 2021 travel. opportunities - for fun & future planning .

**********

One big risk (IMO) is that the world’s flaccid response to Covid 19’s rise to being a “super bug”
will result in elimination of a generation of doctors & medical workers through their deaths..

This is an unspoken reality in the current provincial and federal Canadian response to the pandemic.
If we as a society fail to act responsibly - we won’t have a fully functioning medical system for a generation .

[[“then - who is going to take care of us boomers - when we get really old “]]

An example that is widely known in Canada :
every day 1500 medical workers who live in Windsor cross the border to Detroit to work in Michigan hospitals .
If they became unavailable - there would be hospitals with insufficient staff to function .

A major death toll in docstors , medical staff , paramedics etc. around the world ; is likely to create some serious long term issues .

I don't think there's any reason to expect the death toll among health care to differ from the population as a whole. Also, the soon rollout of an antibody test will allow identification of health care workers, and other front-line individuals, who have been expose and have recovered. That should enable us to be more effective in deploying health care personnel. Specifically, we can direct health care personnel who have healed from the disease into COVID-19 care, and divert non-positive resistance personnel into non-COVID-19 managed settings.

When things get to be Spring there, please post some neighborhood pictures. It really sounds like a nice area. I know you put up a few when your house was under construction, but it'd be nice to see your new neighborhood. Hopefully, walking with the neighbors will help you make some new friends, and things won't be so lonely. I think a lot of your isolation right now is the quarantine and feeling of being unsettled.

Be careful. In SoCal, apparently surfboarding isn't considered social distancing.

Yeah, but, how many will fall before that? We're already losing them. They are much more exposed than general public. I'm not sure we know that after you get this crap once, you're immune. Could be the second get is the deadly one.

I am very concerned for our front lines workers. I'm appalled that they are forced to go without appropriate gear. I support any that walk off the job as they did not sign up to donate their lives.

I am here less. I found some of the posts just too stressful. I'm online more but spend most of that time finishing the semester of my Italian class which meets online now three days a week, plus homework, and working on Ancestry.com trying to figure out who my birth father was. I'm busy enough. Walk everyday either alone or with my mother. It seems I spend an inordinate time trying to order groceries for pick-up, wiping everything down, doing laundry and washing my hands!

I also find the tone of some of the posts disheartening. I am just ignoring them as there are many other tuggers I enjoy.

That's one of the reasons I keep posting jokes and stuff. You have to get your head up and out of the bad stuff now and then. I try to give folks a reason to smile, hence the "twisted perspective" comment. :)

I have a friend (former coworker) on another (unrelated) website, who is the Crowned King of "Oh Woe Is Me" posts, This guy is a nice person in real life, but EVERY POST HE MAKES is filled with bad attitude, anger, passive-aggressive BS, and why the world is out to get him. It's almost like he's a split personality. He's absolutely exhausting.

I, on the other hand, am pretty much a single-personality. What you read is what you get. I'm as shallow as I sound. LOL! :D

I am sure I am guilty of posting some depressing information. I will try to be more careful and try to mention the positive side, even if I am posting something negative. Personally, I like that Tuggers discuss difficult topics with different points of view. It is not something that I do outside of TUG. On Facebook, I am very mild because everyone knows me there. With TUG, we get some anonymity, which I appreciate. However, I do not like when people fight and insult each other, even if it is not personal.

It doesn’t work like that. A doctor is not a doctor and a nurse is not a nurse even if the general public thinks so.

As a Labor and delivery nurse I am not qualified to be an ER nurse or an ICU nurse. We have operating room nurses not getting to work since most cases are postponed. There should be opportunities to cross train but during an emergency training is close to impossible. The stress level at work is crazy right now. Everyday it’s something new. Supplies are inadequate. We are not any where near testing all staff for expospure.
