I am often travelling with my parents who are at the stage where the rooms with additional bathroom railings, etc are probably safer. I am wondering whether when requesting an ongoing search whether I should be requesting those types of rooms. What I am worried about is whether there are limited numbers of those rooms and so I would have a double impediment to getting an exchange. Namely that not only would the requested resort need to match but a "disability" room would need to show up. What has been the experiences with the exchangers? Do you find that such requests are not really a problem or does it really place you "behind the eight ball".

Greg needed handicapped facilities for the last several trips that we took. I didn't request handicapped rooms but if a match came up for an OGS would phone the resort while still on hold or while cancellable in II and ask about what they had so I could decide whether to keep the exchange or not.

Not a problem with larger resorts, definitely an issue with some smaller "mom and pop" timeshares. So it was the deciding factor in whether we exchanged in or not.

Also made sure I had something in writing confirming that a handicapped unit would be made available and kept following up throughout.

And we had tremendous experiences with help from resorts in receiving and storing medical supplies - like a pallet's worth - prior to our arrival. We never had any sort of negative experience in having our polite requests met.
