We went to AC on Last Call for five-day stays at the Fairfield Atlantic City over President's Week. We snagged two 1br units--one for us, one for the kids! Many people here offered great advice and info, just wanted to thank everyone and give the update.

The people at the resort were ALL very kind and accommodating. The check-in clerk upgraded us to rooms with balconies so that we could have a room close to the kids' room. Both rooms had views of the water! The rooms were big and very clean, and both had Jacuzzis, two TVs, and a DVD player, and full kitchens.

The activities were fun for the kids (lots of activities, too!) and the pool was really warm. Other guests were nice, too. When we came in, they asked us to do a sales call and then they called the first day to ask again. We did go b/c they promised it would be a short one, 30 minutes, b/c we own a timeshare elsewhere already. It ended up being about 40 minutes--the saleswoman was not high-pressure and showed us the FairShare program, and we said no thanks, and that was that. Our 6yo was moping in the activity room and one of the salesmen was very sweetly trying to jolly her up when we came back from the tour. Probably made the presentation shorter!

The common area on the top floor is SPECTACULAR and they told us it was for everyone, not just the people staying on the penthouse. The elevators are definitely the weak link. There are three of them, and if they were all working at any one time everything was fine. But usually at least one was out. It wasn't terrible terrible terrible, but it's not ideal.

The parking had just gone up to $10 per day from $5 but our confirmation said $5, so they charged $5. The valets brought the car very quickly when we wanted it.

One tip: buy groceries at the ShopRite on the way into AC (if you're coming from the north). There's also an okay PathMark to the south. DO NOT go to the IGA near the resort--ughhhhh.

We had a really fun stay! Thanks again to everyone who answered our many questions!

How close is a nice beach to go to in the summertime to the resort?

I hear Brigantine is the closest nice beach. We took a walk on the AC beach and while it's beautiful in a rough, natural way, there were zillions of shells and pieces of shells and rocks--they covered the sand. I don't know if the casinos groom the beach in the summer. The water looked pretty rough to me, too, but of course it's hard to tell in the winter what the summer will be like.

How far is it from the casinos? Is it safe to walk to the boardwalk/casinos? Which Fairfield is it? Thanks

Brigantine is a great, clean family beach. I haven't been in a while but there is a fee charged during the summer for a beach pass.

The Fairfield Skyline Tower at Atlantic City is right across the street from a casino called Resorts. Once you're inside Resorts, you can walk indoors to Trump Taj Mahal and then on to another casino and I think you might be able to keep going from there. The distances are a good solid walk b/c the casinos are so vast.

Most of the casinos are lined up along the boardwalk. The Fairfield is about a two-block walk to the actual boardwalk and beach.

I'm guessing that Brigantine's beach would be about a 10- or 20-minute drive if you knew where you were going and didn't keep missing the turn like we did!

Please take it from a local...although it is only a block from the boardwalk I would not let let your teens walk it alone (if you have any) or any older relatives. If you decide to walk it I would do it quickly and walk with purpose so to speak...not just strolling. In AC there is always the potential for a negative unforseen event to happen. Although they do not want to advertise the crime level in AC, it is still quite bad. Since January alone I believe there were at least 8 shootings with 4 being fatal. AC is fun but you must be on your toes on the streets, in the clubs, in the elevators, and yes even in the public bathrooms. I know better and I even had my purse stolen there. I hate to be so negative but since you asked I thought you would want to know.

Yes, have to agree with IWant. Wherever we went, we kept the kids very very close by and we all stayed together and walked quickly and purposefully, even on the beach. AC is bad. It has a very dangerous feel pretty much everywhere you go.

It's really sad that there is so much wealth in the casinos and the money, which was supposed to make AC better, has not even extended one block in from the boardwalk.
