First time logging in! I've seen where many have brought food with them on the plane for use at Haborside. ie frozen meats and dry goods. Do you or do you not have to pay duty on these items. I have heard that duty is 100% so is it worth it to bring some of your own food. Thanks for any ideas or suggestion you can give me. I'm travel with a family of 7 and we leave this Saturday (Sunday) night on a red eye from California.

Welcome to TUG! :hi:

I can't answer your question, but we have lots of members here who can. Also, if you scroll down a little you will see some other recent Harborside threads, and if you use the search function (search this forum button) and search for Harborside, you will find lots more helpful info.

Have a great trip!

We have never been ask to pay a fee for taking food to Bahamas. Once you land in Bahamas, you go thru customs, then you get your luggage, once you have your luggage you got thru another check-point and then to the cab pick-up/drop-off. The last check-point they will go thru your luggage. To avoid that last check-point, hire a porter to get your luggage. Not only we he get all your luggage, he will wisk you past the last check-point and get you a taxi. Tag all the luggage the same ribbon, take an extra piece of ribbon to give the porter to find your luggage.

Many who have posted about bringing groceries were doing this before the airlines started charging for a 2nd bag. If many of the airlines follow delta's recent policy of charging $50 then very few will be willing to pack that extra bag/cooler of groceries.

Excellent point! When we went in June, we were still allowed two bags with no charge.

The grocery store mentioned on the other thread wasn't too outrageous with thier prices. The store has a very good selection and well worth the stop prior to check-in.

I'm still waiting for the airlines to weigh each passenger at check-in and charge appropriately...

I know American Airlines does not charge baggage fees for for international flights. Here is the exception list from their website...

Looks like it is the same on United. No fee for international destiniations:

Fine by me, but I also think I should pay less for clothes than someone twice my size because I'm getting less material. :)
