Fellow Tuggers,
The time has arrived to claim my buyback from GUSA! The first date for submiting my request was July 28, 2026. My package of required documents was emailed before noon that very day. Submission would only be accepted as a PDF email. My situation is a little dofferent because my husband died within the year of buying the deal. It was updated to my name in 2016 after Tim died, when I bought into additional package which raised the value and postponed the buyback by one year. The contracts were in my name as sole owner. Only the 2015 Buyback Certificate had Tim's name on it after that update. I submitted everything required except for Probate documents. There are none. Our assets were owned with joint or surivorship rights. Within my submission, I explained that no probate admistration was required.
I received an update that the legal department is requesting the probate documentation proving that I am sole heir. I submitted Tim's Will in first submission; in it, he named me as sole heir but mentioned our three children. Gusa wants assurance that nobody else can come back on them to claim a share of the buyback proceeds.
I sent them an email expaining why there are no probate documents and suggested that our adult children would be willing to send notarized documents disclaiming any rights to the buyout and recognizing me as the sole benefiary of the proceeds.
Does anyone have any recommendations for resolving this issue? GUSA may be looking for any reason to deny my claim, and they most likely are doing so.
If you have any experience with the GUSA Buyback, I would appreciate it if you would share your experience. It might provide some good advice.
I have heard that this buback is a scam. I am trying to jump through every hoop so they can not deny my legal claim. I am open to advice.
Thanks in advance.
