Got emails
All Publix supermarkets will be closing 8 pm

All Harris Teeters will be closing 9 pm.

Basically says to focus on cleaning, replenishment, and the well-being of our valued associates.

There goes my doctors suggestion I shop late at night when stores have less people

I read in our local paper that at least one chain in Santa Fe is closing early.

Just saw the sign at Smith's (Kroger) that new hours are 6 am to 11 pm. I can't tell what the old hours were, 'cause this is both earlier and later than my bedtime. :)

Are you not an early morning person @Panina ?
Around here anyway, our grocery stores are stocked best in the early mornings...

About 18 months ago I overheard a woman in her 80's giving our Von's assistant manager a dressing down regarding shelves in the dairy area not being stocked at 11am on a weekday. I silently applauded her because I'd been noticing that too. In fact we never shop much before 2pm these days because it is a real PITA not to be able to buy milk and cheese when there earlier.

If/when school is in session again, I find shopping about 8:15am pretty good. Working folks are all at work, and the carpools are delivering kids to school.

Trader Joe opens at 8am.

And if you have Plus membership at Sam's, there is normally no one there from opening at 7 until nearly 9am. Not this week, though. Totally worth the extra membership fee ($100 vs $45, but you get 2% back too).

For almost 20 years I was an early riser. Forced because I had to be at work 7 am. Now I tend to wake 8-9 but prefer not to rush. It was my doctor that suggested I go late at night to the grocery.

I actually predicted this panic. When I got home last month from Florida, I started stocking up on many dry goods as I knew there would be a possible shortage. Having to eat gluten free my options are more limited then most. So I am set.

My other half actually had his head in the sand. He saw me stocking up as panic as said it was not necessary. I warned him his favorites might not be available when everyone runs to the grocery. He thought I was wrong.

Yesterday evening he finally got it. He was shocked how many thing were cleared off the shelves. Today he is out at all the stores to get stuff to work on his garage.

If I get coronavirus it will be because he brings it home.

I do have to throw this wild idea at you - make the hubby do the grocery shopping for awhile!

He is doing it. He just called/facetimed me and showed me foods were stocked. All cleansers and paper goods were gone. Surprisingly store hardly had anyone in it. This store was in a different neighborhood about 30 minutes from us over the border in N.C.

I think the grocery stores may be pretty vacant within a few days. I also wouldn't be surprised if some grocery stores are forced to temporarily close due to lack of products, or employees being ill (or too scared to report to work).

I was thinking about this, like the 3 Kroger's within a few miles decide one stays open, the others close, share employees while they are healthy.
