Grande Vista purchase. Is this a good idea?

I have been researching the web lately thinking about maybe purchasing a week at Grande Vista. I used to own a 3 bdr platinum (5yrs ago) and it was really good. I sold a few years back and now that I see that prices are low, I'm considering purchasing another week.

I got a call from a broker today asking me for 2500 for a week (every year) plus closing costs? Is this a good deal? I hear that Marriott has changed their trading system, does that mean I should stay away from purchasing then? Is GV still a decent trader? Is 2500 a good price for a platinum week at GV?

Thanks for the input.

2 bdr, every year usage, platinum season. Usage starting in 2012. If I purchase, will I be able to reserve the first week of April (4/1-4/8), or is it too late? We are in the process of paying about 1200 for a rental at Cypress Harbour, but if we can spend 2500 and buy a week, this would make more sense, I think. Unless, you guys think this is not good.

I really like Grande Vista. It's not super expensive, and I hear it has decent trading power, but with the new rules, I'm not 100% familiar of how this may play out.

I think $2,500 is good price.
I don't think you can reserve 4/1 week on 2012.
When I checked online, available platinum weeks are all summer weeks.
If seller is willing, ask to reserve week 52 at grande vista and try direct owner exchange or interval international for 4/1 week. It may can save your rental cost.

Grande vista still has great trading value.
I just bought my third grande vista week.

Well, if you do decide to buy it then I would make it contingent on the seller being able to make your desired reservation dates for 2012, and not waste any time during the closing process. The 4/1/12 reservation date may be available today, but not six weeks from now when you finally take title to it.

The broker told me that he cannot guarantee that they will be able to reserve that week.

Don't know what to do. I'm just happy I sold my week years ago, and I was able to recoup almost all the money I paid for it.

I just checked availability at grande vista for 2012 platinum week.
5/31 through 8/24 are available now.

Maybe 2BR availability can be a little different, because mine is 3BR.

The broker just called me today saying that they have lowered the price to $ 2000. This is so tempting. What do you guys think? Is it really worth it? It looks like time-share is no longer such a good idea. I'm so confused.

I'd grab it for $2,000. We just got an exchange for a 2 BR unit at the Sands Of Kahana in Hawaii for 12/21/12 using our 3 BR gold Grande Vista.

Yes, it is a good trader......

One caveat... has the seller paid the 2012 Maintenance Fee? If not, you will instantly be on the hook for nearly $1,000 more.

If you get use of the 2012 week, then expect to pay the 2012 MF's.

Over the past year I have seen lots of posts from MGV owners who still have gotten great trades. Esp. if you intend to use it at least some of the time, sounds like a terrific price.

Definitely push to get a reservation made now.

If seller can reserve week 52 for you, and if you use that week for trades, 2012 MF is fine.
$2000 is a good price.

2012 MF has not been paid. I asked about reserving 2012 and the broker said that it has not been reserved and that if they reserve the week, he is not sure how Marriott would transferred the reserved week to another owner. I don't know. I'm so confused. I think 2K is not a bad deal.

I agree 2K is a good price... When I was looking several months ago the lowest that the sellers would accept was 2500.. I wasn't tracking eBay back then o have no idea what eBay prices were. Is the week a part of the Florida club?

It should be fine for Marriott to transfer a confirmed reservation to you. Mine came with a confirmed reservation for 2011 and it just showed up online when everything was completed. I am not sure what the closing company would have to do though to get it transferred though.

I would think the reservation would just transfer with the sale. When I bought my first Sheraton it did not include this year's use There was already a reservation for someone else in the account for Labor Day weekend, and it just transferred. I could see the reservation info in the persons name.

If the previous owner books a week it will either simply transfer to you when you become the recorded owner, or you just call Owner Services and they handle it easily.
