Just a question is the Grand Mayan, Riviera Mayan, Lobby finally reopened after the fire yet, can anyone tell us? We are going Dec. 27 - Jan. 3 and we were just wondering if it is renovated yet and if the lazy river is any closer to completion. Thanks in advance, Doug

I don't know, but I'm heading there mid-January, so let us know what you find out while there.

I stayed at the Mayan Palace last month. Yes, the lobby was open

Strange thing, I never saw the lazy river and we explored the property quite a bit. There was construction going on at all hours on the shopping area so maybe there was an area that was not accessible or not available for the Mayan Palace guests?? I don't know if the lazy river was done.

The lazy river is on the other side of the Mayan Palace units away from the golf course. It appears to be integrated with a whole new complex of new units - not sure whether they are more MP, GM, or Bliss. it appeared to me (looking through the fence) that the lazy river is more of giant circular swimming pool and seemed to be mostly completed when we were there in October. However, I get the feeling that it will not be opened until the whole complex is open.

However, this is all conjecture on my part.

The new GM lobby and surrounding thatched "buildings" were nearly complete when one of the thatched roofs caught on fire from a welding spark (from what I understand). The fire quickly spread to all of the surrounding structures. It was isolated to just those structures.

You could probably Google "grand mayan fire" and find some Youtube videos of it, it was pretty impressive.

Also, when we were there in July, I noticed they had installed what appear to be water cannons around the new area. Hopefully, they won't ever have to use them.
