Grand Mayan NV vs Mayan Palace NV

No matter what your age the Grand Mayan is much nicer with more amenities, larger rooms, if I recall correctly those staying at the Grand Mayan can use pools at Mayan Palace, but those staying at Mayan Palace are not able to use pools at the Grand Mayan.
When I was last at G/M we could see the M/P NV buildings being torn down and it was a mess. Not sure of the status now but I'm sure others will have comments.

No question the Grand Mayan
The Mayan Place was a large resort with many rooms and huge pool complex, the key word there is was, as the removed the Red and Yellow building and 60% of the Blue Building and reduced the pool complex by about 50% to make room for the Grand Bliss and Grand Luxxe.
The GM is very nice, great pools, you can view our trip photos on our site of our March and June trips.

Grand Mayan. No question. See if you can upgrade to the Grand Bliss.
As an owner of the Mayan Palace, i would choose the Grand Mayan given the choice, for all the reasons given above (although only 1/3 of the blue building has been demolished).
I'll be at the other 2/3 of the Mayan Palace next month, and would love to use their pool complex, but I'll survive

We are in NV right now and I would stay at the Grand Mayan for the reasons above. However, don't write off the MP pool. Yes it was reduced in size by about 30%, but it is still huge when compared to some of the other resorts in the area. If it is just the two of you, the MP pool can be more relaxing as most of the louder activities and family gatherings seem to happen mostly around the GM pool complex. The MP pool is right down on the beach and is sometimes a quieter option.
They are currently demolishing the one wing of the MP (jackhammers are going strong outside my Grand Luxxe room right now @ 6:30PM). Hopefully the demolition will be complete by your stay, but the construction on the replacement building may just be getting underway. Play it safe and book the GM and you'll be away from the construction noise and still have your choice of the two pools.

When you say they are jackhammering at the MP still, I thought they were down to 2 floors and were finished demolishing that wing(?).
I saw photos that showed the wing closest to the GL that was taken down. Have they occupied that rounded section of the MP closest to the GB, or is that being taken down?
