Grand Mayan NV Suite Choices

My wife and I (no children on this trip) are staying in a 1BR at the Grand Mayan NV. Viewing Google Maps, there appears to be 6 buildings. Some questions:
  • Which buildings are preferred for better ocean view?
  • What is the lowest floors with good ocean views?
  • Any other input regarding suite location?
  • Does the resort have a shuttle that runs to the marina or other locations like Walmart?
  • Is the closest Walmart located in the marina area or another location?
  • Can we pick up the bus into PV within walking distance from the resort?
  • Does each building have suites that face the ocean on one side and the inland on the other side?
  • How are the buildings numbered from south to north?

Thanks for your help.

There is another thread currently running about how exchangers seldom get ocean view rooms. Owners get the ocean views before exchangers. Because the palm trees are so tall, units 5th floor and above have better views - even of the golf course and grounds. All buildings have suites on each side of them. The ocean view units end in odd numbers and the golf course view units end in even numbers. You generally do not have the opportunity to choose your unit location.

The resort does not run a shuttle to Walmart that I am aware of. You will need to take a taxi. There is a Walmart between Nuevo and Bucerias. We prefer the Mega in Bucerias to Walmart.

You can walk to the bus stop that is by the Sun Market just past the Sea Garden to catch a bus into Puerto Vallarta.

The resort is great and you should have a great time regardless of your unit assignment.

I only have one addition to the info that Pittle gave you. In Dec on our way to Walmart in Nuevo (by taxi) we passed a new store opening that day....Chedraul....spelling ??, but it sounds like that and is along the main road before Walmart. We heard very good things about it, but never went back. Walmart was very good.
However, after stocking up during the Walmart run, if I ran out of something, I just went to Sun Market or OXXO. It didn't make sense to pay a taxi.
You will have a great time and go for a spin on the "lazy river"!
The Punta Arena Fish and Seafood Market on the beach down from Havana Moon and the Luxxe area is great for a special romantic dinner! Palm trees and lighting give it a lot of atmosphere, and you are right on Banderas Bay. (you mentioned no children with you) Hope this helps....enjoy!

Chedraui is...

a large Mexican chain that has grown steadily over the past 30 years. My experience is that the stores are very comparable to Walmart. That said, I would bet that most, but not all, Mexicans would pick Chedraui over Walmart - and that most, but not all, Norteamericanos would choose Walmart over Chedraui.

Hope this helps.

We used a Chedraui in Playa del Carmen, and I would not hesitate to use another in the chain over a Walmart...depends which one was closer to where I was staying.

Just remember when you go shopping that the units at the GM do not have ovens. So you have to shop with sautee in mind. I've never actually cooked in my rooms there, so I don't know if the microwave also serves as a convection oven.
