How do I go about this as we have two 2 BR units during the New Years week thru RCI exchanges. Does anyone have have an email address or specific phone number to call to make the request.

Are units preassigned in advance or done at checkin on first come first serve basis??

Would also be great to have oceanview units - or at least ones on a higher
floor.

Also, any suggestions on "must dos" while in PV?

thanks

Hmmmmm ... you could e-mail them and tell them that both sets of adults will be willing to sit through their timeshare presentation if they put you in adjacent units in an ocean view area.

Don't know if that's worth the Mayan agony, though.

My son recently got married at the Riviera mayan. In total, we had 8 or 9 GM units. We tried through emails to get them all at least in the same building but their procedure is to work all that when you check in. Persistence usually pays off. We got them all pretty close.

At least at Nuevo, all the GM units are in the same building. You might agree for both to be on the non ocean side to get them together. Personally, I would rather be separated and both get ocean views.

Good luck. If you haven't been there, you will love the resort. But remember, DON'T BUY ANYTHING.

It's not possible to get 2 2BR units next to each othe at the GM. The 2 BR units are located the first rooms off the elevator, and the end rooms on each floor. There are 8 2 BR units on each floor. The best you can do is across from each other. One would be ocean, and the other would be golf (or garage) view. That's the way the rooms are set up in each building.

Just to be clear on your email, are in saying the room assignments are made upon checkin and NOT in advance. So I should get there as early as possible to check in or should I go ahead and email them anyway.

Thanks,

Joyce

Kitchens at Grand Mayan

What a bummer - I hate rooms by the elevator because oftentimes people chat while waiting for elevators and it can be disturbing early in the morning or late at night.

BTW, how about the kitchens at the GM? Is it only a partial - so even in the 2 BR units, there is only a half refrigerator?? How big is the stove and is there an oven - so we can cook a real meal if we want???

Thanks for the info.

i would suggest an email and checking in relatively early - and being persistent. However, realistically, being on the same floor or even the same building will not be that much of an issue. the rooms are big enough that you can all socialize pretty easily. IMHO, I would rather have two units separated with ocean views than two together with golf course view.

The kitchens are big enough for cooking - don't remember whether there was an oven, certainly a full range, MW, and a reasonable frig. We always eat out so we just snack in the kitchen.

Have a great time.

The fridge is adequate probably about 12 cu ft
It is enough for vacation.
Take a couple of collapsable coolers for beverages
but you will have trouble sneaking them around the pool.

There is a cooktop but no oven. 3/4 fridge with very little freezer space. No real storage space for dry food. We used the boxes we obtained by shopping at "Mega"and placed them under the entry table. We visited over this Thanksgiving. I enjoyed the resort-beautiful rooms. It's set up for you to spend your dollars at the resort as opposed to "cooking in" We made do with simple breakfast foods, sandwiches, microwavable food. However-do take a taxi to the Mega and do some food shopping-buy the fresh salsa! It will save you a lot in the long run. My kids especially enjoyed the pint sized frozen strawberries and cream that cost about .80 cents to purchase at the Mega or Sunset market. Two pints and some milk then ice in the very lovely Krups Blender and Viola...smoothies for the day. Sure beat the 7.00 per drink the resort wanted.

We were in a 2bd somewhat near the elevator (maybe 3 doors down) and the ice maker and we never heard a peep. I don't think that is issue that should concern you.

Enjoy your trip and just decide what's best for you.

Hi Stressy:

Just read your other GM post. Did the GM Concierge ever email you back on transportation. Was in on a GM shuttle (priced per person) and cheaper than a cab - there are 6 of us. How much was the cab to the Mega? Need to email them.

Joyce,

They never emailed me, so I called. Twas a very expensive call. 12 mins-40.00 dollars as I just received my phone bill-I might have just as well paid for transportation :hysterical:

Anyway....on the phone-they ask all your particulars (reservation #, number in party, etc) and then advise you to see Miller Transportation outside of the terminal. Blue shirts and white or Khaki pants. They will have all your info-if you call ahead. No confirmation-you just have to trust them. They load you up in a van and off you go. We drove with another family of 3-we were a family of 4-so 7. 6 of you should do fine in one van. Was complimentary-we just tipped the driver.

You are on your own on return. We took a cab-4 of us-was I don't know-12.00 or 16.00 dollars. It's all regulated. You would probably need a van or larger car than we took, back to airport-so more-but again, it's all regulated so ask when you get to the resort and they can tell you-so you can plan for it.

To the Mega was 110.00 pesos each way. Was very simple. Tell the desk out front you want a cab and where you are going-one pulls right up. Same thing at Mega. They are waiting right there for you. Depending on the exchange rate-was almost 13-1 when we were there-the ride should cost you about 9 or 10 dollars-US. Same on return. Cab to Sunset Market, smaller, more expensive, but more convienently located at Paradise Village is about 3.00 US each way. We went to both markets during our stay in addition to the small market on site.

Enjoy your trip!

Another idea use a phone card like from Sams Club or Wal Mart for the long distance it wont be that much.

I've done that. I have some really old phone cards that I bought from SAM's years ago before cell phones had unlimited long distance calling. I use them to call the Mexico resorts that we are going to. They usually use 6 minutes of time on the card for every minute you talk.

LOL, show like something I would do to save a few$$. I check rental car rates periodically after I have reserved and rebook if rates drop - which they often do - sometimes in the week right before you go. This summer on our month long trip to Europe - where car rental rates are outrageous - I checked the night before we left and they have dropped about $150 for our 2 wk rental. Even though it was prepaid - no penalty for cancellation of course - I cancelled and rebooked. Any money saved was great as the exchange for the Euro was miserable - as the trip ended up costing a small fortune for a family of 4.

Thanks so much. So it was actually free??? Are you an owner of the Mayan group? On the RCI exchange, the confirmation indicates an "extra charge"??? So they did not ask you for credit card info or some other form of payment??

Thanks,

Joyce

I am not an owner. I came in on a SFX exchange. It was totally free-they do not ask for CC info. Just name, confirmation number, number in party and flight info. You phone the concierge.

The concept is to keep you away from the timeshare sharks that will be hounding you from the airport and get you directly to the GM so they can do their own hounding :hysterical: and trust me they do. As I said, they could care less how you get back-that's when you cab it.

When obtaining our "branding" (wristbands) they said something to this effect "I KNOW you signed up for a presentation at another property before you left the airport, so let's discuss that"

Me-"No I didn't" Them- (amazed) "You didn't?" Me-"Nope" Them-"blah,blah, blah, 10 percent off bill (wouldn't have amounted to a hill of beans for us-because I hardly spent anything there) and discounts for tours. Discounts were decent but I wasn't doing any excursions. Them-call the room, call the room, call the room, "You couldn't possibly have obtained your wristband because you are NOT signed up for a presentation" Me-"Yep, we have them, all set, PLEASE remove us from your solictation list-I'll call you if I want to attend"

That was the end of it. Big points from me for actually doing what I asked.

Of course,if you leave the property with your beautiful new piece of jewelry then you are bait every where-not that you aren't already-but it's just confirmation and information right there on your wrist.

I have only stayed at one other place where I wore a wristband....It was AI (not timeshare) and in the Bahamas many moons ago. My kids were like "What is this" We are very low key people so the whole announcing where we were staying bothered us a bit...but that's just us

It's a beautiful property and I hope you will enjoy your time away with your family immensely...for that is what it is all about. Let us know how you did when you return.

Adios :hi:
