Hi all,

We're at the Grand Luxxe Nuevo Vallarta on an Interval Exchange.

When we checked in yesterday, they tried to talk us into a sales pitch, which we politely declined.

The initial offer was for 50% all tours (we're not interested in any tours) plus a percent off our total resort bill (can't remember what they said, I wasn't paying that much attention at that point, just saying 'no no no no thank you').

Then they asked about trading in, what we used. I said my Hyatt. She offered to pay my MFs. I pointed out that Hyatt has a points overlay, we didn't use our entire unit to trade in. She said no matter, they'd pay our entire MF if we'd do the '1 hour' sales pitch.

Still said no, but I will admit she got my interest, mostly because I was trying to figure out what she was talking about.

Then she asked why we wouldn't do the sales pitch. I explained we already own too many timeshares, we can't use any more. That's when she came back with the offer that they'd pay *all* of our TS MFs for a year if we'd do the tour.

Still said no, mostly because I didn't believe her and didn't want to get trapped by the Vidanta sales person for 4-5 hours.

But can anyone tell us what she was getting at?! I assume this must be one of those fuzzy deals where they pay your MFs if you purchase and they promise to sell your other TSs or something strange like that?

Just haven't heard this one yet, thought maybe y'all would know.

The place is swell. We've stayed here before, at the Grand Mayan. We're in a Luxxe studio, which is pretty perfect for us. Love the gym. Had a great yoga class today. :)

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
I can't imagine getting something in writing that they would pay $1000-$5000 USD for taking a no obligation timeshare tour.

Well, we met some other people walking around who were made the same offer and asked more questions than we did- the deal is they give you some sort of credit card that you can use to go online and buy stuff at certain websites. Overpriced junk, I'm sure.

Totally makes sense now.

No way!

Sounds like what they refer to as "Vida Dollars". These can be used to help pay for a cruise, vacuum, fridge etc BUT only a very small % of the cost of the item can be used AND they expire every year......not worth the paper it is written on IMHO.

I know it's all a moot point now and after-the-fact but just for mild amusement, I would have said "Our MFs total over $2000 per year. Are you willing to shell out $2000 just to have me sit through a 1-hour, no-obligations sales presentation?"

If at that point she said Yes, my response would have been "How about this, just give me half that amount, heck even a quarter of that amount in cash and you've got a deal!" Wonder what she'd say then.

A little DIversion, but need an answer and Heathpak is at Mayan World

Heathpack - since you are there, I need the answer to a question.
How far is it from the highway to the new entrance?

We will be in PV with our "kids" for Thanksgiving week and I would like to show them what we own now (we are not staying at GL this year because the "kids" wanted to stay at the Buganvilias). We want to show them what they are missing!

We will be taking a bus to and from Punta de Mita one day and would like to stop by and walk the grounds on our return trip. Is the entrance close to the road, or would we be better off walking through the gate near Taco Break or from the beach? I have my Owner's card and 2 wristbands from last year.

Thanks for any info.

You know, I didn't pay any attention when we arrived, we were chatting with the other couple in the shuttle. I'll make a point of paying attention when we leave on Friday & will post back when we get home.
