We are exchanged into Grand Luxxe for two weeks from May 5, 2017. The first week, we have three bedroom, the 2nd week is 2 bedroom residence. We requested higher floor with ocean view. The concierge send us email stating our unit is pent house unit in the residence building. Not sure where is it. We did not request for 2nd week yet. We would like to be closer to the beach. Any suggestion of our 2nd week request. Some said if we go for a presentation, we could get better room. I am dread of sales pitch. We had some bad experience in Cancun.

The first week, we have a group of 8 friends. We have the following questions and hope to get some insights.
1. We plan rent a car from Grand Luxxe to go to Costco to get lots of water, beer, drinks, fruits, and other supplies. Is it worth to rent a car. We are worry about lots of stuff to carry for bus or other transportation. Taxi may not fit all we need. Anyone has experience rent a car?
2. The resort offer meal plan when check in. The TripAdvisor provide information of $100 per person for 6 breakfasts. $300 per person for 6 breakfast and 6 dinner. We are thinking to buy the 6 breakfast and 6 dinner. But 8 person, it will cost $2,400 for it. We could get a lots of food if we cook it. Some ladies in our good want to cook their own favorite meals.
3. What is the activities in the resort. We are all adults. Half of them do not drink alcohols, so may not care for bars.
4. We are thinking to take some snorkeling trip. What is the best one? Any other activities that you advice?
5. My husband likes casino. Any suggestion?

Thanks.

How to move it. I hardly know how to search. The website changed a lot and I never know how to find info. I just use the search and not sure how to ask for help or questions. I came to browse only when I need info.

We will ask a moderator to move it. You don't have to do anything.

I am also curious to read the responses to your questions. Our trip is in June.

Having just returned from Puerto Vallarta I couldn't recommend a meal plan that includes all your dinners. There are so many really great places to eat in PV I'd never stay in for every dinner. There also are tiny family owned spots to get authentic delicious home made Mexico food!

Re: renting car for big grocery run. Not sure I would. We stayed at the GM there 3 years ago (6 adults, 4 kids). I recall some taxi's were full size vans and worked well for our group. Car rentals at resorts can be more expensive than elsewhere but I don't have specific info on the costs at this resort. I read somewhere that some meals require two of the meal vouchers so I would also dig into that before purchasing. We like the restaurants on site but there are so many great places in PV to explore as well.

The resort will provide complimentary transportation from the airport, but you need to get back there yourself. Not everyone has to go for groceries and it's close. Leave half the group and just take a taxi, you should be able to get all the stuff you need. I've brought 3 families with kids and done the food run with 3 people. It's fine. The closest will be walmart. You can get the meal plan and split it up amongst your group so you just go out a couple of nights. I don't know of any nearby casino, but when we go we never leave except for groceries, but I have young kids. The pools and your deck are beautiful and you have a full kitchen. That's basically all I need on a vacay, but your needs may differ. Free popsicles at the GL pools at 1 and 4pm. Lazy river. Shaded pool at Luxxe 4 for bright hot days. Can't wait to get back there in August.

Agree. For the most part, you have to order an appetizer, main course, and dessert to come out ahead. My wife and I split one meal plan last time...we're skipping it next trip. Head out into PV and NV and enjoy the restaurants.

We rented a car on one of our RM trips, but did not rent on our first visit to NV except to go to the grocery store. I agree with hellolani; I would not rent a car for groceries. In terms of renting a car to do other things, it really depends on your plans and desires. If you decide to rent a car, be diligent and read other threads concerning the insurance. Prices are sometimes (mostly, always?) quoted without the insurance. It's steep in Mexico. We're going back in September, and have no plans to rent a car.

We just got back from two weeks there. I agree with the suggestion of not renting a car. Just take a cab for whatever group needs it. We enjoy the restaurants at the resort and were glad to have the meal plan option. We were there for two weeks and had friends there for one week. We bought two meal plan sets (a total of 12 breakfasts and 12 lunch/dinners). The breakfast buffet is great and when we went, it was definitely two meals worth of food for us. The dinners we used sporadically -- you don't have to get a meal plan for each person, just use the coupons as you see fit: use a couple of them at a restaurant and share appetizers or desserts. It's a beautiful place and we're already booked there for next year.
