We tried that and they acted like they were walking us to the check out point, but we just more high pressure sales. This just kept happening and neither of us is easily intimidated, but it was an exceedingly unpleasant experience.

Having been there a few times, we know the way out and don't need their escort. When we stay there, the discounts are automatically appended to the room stay in their IT system, so there isn't a need to check out. If you come in off the street, any gifts you sign up for are given at the travel desk in the Grand Bliss building.

I have a reservation via SFX into the 2BR Grand Luxxe NV this year. It'll be DW going with a couple girlfriends. Is there a way to get one of the 2BR units that have two beds in the second bedroom? Also, is there anything that I need to do to ensure they only get charged the lower $150/week resort fee since it was booked prior to the Feb 8 fee increase?

I've never had an issue with SFX exchanges and being charged the wrong resort fee.

I don't know if any of the Grand Luxxe 2 BR units have an option for 2 beds in the Master (the 1 BR part that connects to the Studio). I know some of the Grand Mayan units do. You'd have to email the concierge/customer service and inquire about that.

How did you get $150/week resort fee charge and mine is $950?

So what should I expect on this "sheet of benefits/discounts" if I attend the meeting? Half off resort fee is a good start, even if it is credit towards resort dining/purchases. I am sure I can clear $400+ of charges in 7 days.

Vidanta frequently changes the fees and other restrictions for exchanges. When he made the exchange via SFX, the resort fee was $150. They recently aligned the resort fee for exchanges with SFX to match those applied to RCI and II exchanges. Yours was either after the change or through one of the others.

The initial offer will be for 10% off resort charges and a Vidanta Privileges card that gets you discounts on some stuff there like massages, meals, and golf. You can get them to cover up to ~50% of the resort fee cost as a credit to the room charges from what I've heard, but be sure it's spelled out accurately on the offer sheet. I've also heard that if you negotiate something with the body snatchers at the airport, the folks at Vidanta will honor it. Other things you could consider asking for are upgraded room types or assignment (location) or tours. They have a limited budget for what they can give you, so don't go too crazy.

Our room was on the second floor and the view was to the north. I kind of like this for shade. I think the evening view on the south side might be screwed up by the golf course lights with rooms on a lower floor. The north view was nice in the evening but not what I usually go for. I like ocean views and that is kind of important to me so we don't plan on going back.

We do like ocean views, but in the afternoons the deck is unusable if you are facing due west! We have not been to Acapulco in a while, but liked having the non-ocean side, because after a day under a palapa on the beach, we were ready for real shade. It was also fun to watch the employees come and go at shift change time - they had such camaraderie. Even at the Buganvilias where we have ocean front units, we have to close the curtains until about sunset or it is just hot and the sun is blinding. Guess my age is showing! I do love the beach views on the deck from the time I get up until around 3:30 or 4. :)

They generally will honor it, but take your reservation with the $150 amount on it.

My wife & I like the shade too so I guess are age is showing too. We have stayed at the Vallarta Tore and the building faces into the sun. If we are in the room the shades are closed in the same manner as you.

My trip is coming up a little over a week and the resort hasn't called to get my pre-authorization for the resort fees. Should I be concerned? I would rather not call them in case they made a mistake and ask me to give them my info.

I would not prepay. We had two rooms and two prepayments. At checkout they could not find one of the prepayments. Very disorganized. Pay when you get there. It will be ok.

We are here now for 2 weeks via II in 2BR tower 4. They collected week 1 at checkin. Will be keeping same room for week 2. I would not worry about it. When do you arrive?

We did the not bad presentation. Got the card, +25% for each weeks resort fee, +$250USD/week which we had to negotiate for (thanks to posters on TUG!). Those are credits for things charged to the room, but not for the resort fee. Quite cool in the evenings right now, at least to us. Fantastic place.

Not prepaying worked for us last year as well. I just told the guy when I called to arrange transpo that I am not prepaying because I read horror stories of lost prepayments, which was the truth.

I've seen some others reporting since that they are being threatened with cancellation if they don't prepay. I don't know the veracity of this and would love to hear from someone who has withheld prepayment in the last 6 months.

I arrive this Sat 5/7. I called to get my Res # to book the shuttle pickup, they asked if I have paid the resort fee, I said I will pay when I get there and they said Okay no problem.
