Will be arriving at Grand Chateau tomorrow for the first time.

I understand the parking is valet. Correct? If so, do you tip the valet when you drop off the car and when they get it for you? We've never dealt with valet parking for an entire week.

Also, does any remember if there are any ladies disposable shavers in the welcome kit?

Thanks.

The Grand Chateau parking is 100% valet. The system works well in my opinion especially since tower II has opened. There is no need to tip the valet when returning the car to the garage unless you care to but, you should tip when taking the car out of the garage.

It is wise to call ahead to the valet stand when taking your car out. It will make the wait for your car shorter. Most of the time you can get your car out quickly when they are not extra busy. Weekends are tough driving in LV. There is plenty to do within walking distance of the GC. If you must drive, I would stay off of Las Vegas Blvd on weekends. There is a jitney bus called the Duce that moves up and down Las Vegas Blvd. I believe the cost is $2 a day.

With regard to the other question I have never used the welcome kit.

Welcome kits became a thing of the past last year. We didn't receive one this past March when we were at MGC.

Tipping the valet is at your discreation. I generally tip a couple of bucks when picking the car up. Tips are pooled by the valets and divided between them. I'm not certain if they divide the tips per shift of for the entire day.

There is a Walgreens convinience store about a block away. If you walk through Polo Towers lot (another timeshare in front of MGC) you'll cut a considerable amount off the distance and then go south on the strip, it's maybe 3/4 block walk. Or, you can simply walk out and cross Harmon Ave and go into the shoping center at Planet Hollywood and find the convenience store in there. They might be a little higher than Walgreens but, the outdoor walking portion is considerably shorter, you're not walking up an alley next to a high rise building to get to the strip (something I wouldn't do at night) and there's a lot of shops and restaurants to see.

I recently watched a travel show on Las Vegas and they indicated that the standard there for valet tipping is $5.

Maybe its $5. for you rich tourists, but it certainly isn't "standard." We locals tip $2., out only (not when you park, unless you are only going to be gone a very short time and want your car kept available).

No Traffic if you know how to travel

Just got back.
We tipped $2.
We tried to call down, but they said we had to request car in person?

As for traffic, Las Vegas Blvd is busy, buy Koval (runs behind the hotels) is a breeze.

You can get to all the hotels quickly and enter in the back of their Parking garage.
We were going to the Venitian to meet rest of our party. The parking in the garage is much closer to room elevator, than Valet at main lobby.
Same is true at most Vegas hotels, as the rooms are usually across the Casino from the lobby.

We were even able to get by the MGM during the traffic for the fight with no problem using Koval.

It was great having a car at the end of the day to pick up the tired family
and to get over to Albertsons' for groceries at start of trip.
Plus cars are cheap in Vegas. (Be warned, I think the hotel is closer to the Airport than Rental car facility)

But we also did a lot of walking since most of the Casino's were so close.

I think we might consider a TS in Vegas. We go enough. I've got some family out there. We've been about 6 times now at least and we always get a car. The Strip is almost ALWAYS busy. If you want to get anywhere in Vegas, that is the last road you want to drive on. IF you want to have a leisurely tour of the strip though and can kill time, then by all means take it. Koval and "Industrial" (renamed and I forget the new name right this minute - Dean Martin I believe) are great time savers.

That really sort of makes sense to me and I could see that coming.

When they opened tower 2, that front drive became very small IMO. People being what they will not doubt would call down 30 minutes before they needed the car rather than just before they walked out the door towards the elevator. The front drive is in no way designed to handle more than a few parked cars at a time.

Things were getting really tight out front and tempers sometimes flared if someone took their time and blocked the drive because to many cars were parked on either side. By requiring that you be present when you request your car would insure that your car wouldn't remain parked out front adding to the problem of blocking traffic.

I hate to think what it's going to be like when they open towers 3 and 4. I know they say MGC will always be valet only but, they're going to have to expand that front drive or add another enterance/exit whether that additional drive be valet only or self parking.

Is parking free at GC - if not, how much is it per day?

Parking is free with the exception of any tips given to the vatet's.
