We just returned from a week at the Grand Bliss - thought I would comment on my experience from a few perspectives.
On Nuevo in Summer:
I always resisted going then due to heat and rain - but is only time available with some Grandkids; however, I now really like it for several reasons: Get best locations; golf course is not busy; water in pools just right and keeps you cool in heat of day; mornings and evenings are quite comfortable: it mainly rains during the night - really no problem. Golf course in great shape.
Note: Resort is quite busy in Summer - mostly with Mexican nationals. We enjoy the experience (kinda cramped my grandson's style - he is now motivated to learn Spanish)
On upgrade presentation
I always do it to learn: Nothing really new this time. They are still pushing us to upgrade to get new amenities; I listen but have not seen anything worth me shelling out more money. Supposedly, the Spa Tower is now sold out except for internal resales - but who knows.
On changes from January
- As others have reported, they have changed the Taxi / arrival / departure areas and processes. The arrival and Taxi for leaving resort now require more walking and another shuttle - I don't like the changes at all. They need to go back to the drawing board. That said, departure this morning with all the luggage worked quite well.
- Access from the Grand Bliss to anywhere is more difficult. You now have a much longer walk on the wood walkways from the GB to the Santuario or take a shuttle - and then more walking and another shuttle for taxi. We still went off site four days; really doesn't take that long - but not as efficient as before.
- Golf Pro Shop relocated to new Residence Tower; first hole relocated out to Driving range / learning center and hole sequence has changed - new flow doesn't seem logical to me - but probably temporary. 9 holes of Greg Norman course supposedly complete and an amazing golf cart bridge being built across river.
Bottom Line
Although we really don't like many of the changes, we still had a great time as always. We also know all changes are just temporary at the resort - just wait and it will change.
A trivia note
They filmed this summer's "Bachelor in Paradise" at the Grand Mayan Resort - to start airing tomorrow evening (Sunday, Aug 2). I must admit - I will tune in just to see how it is portrayed; I wonder if the bachelor will do the sales presentation - could actually make it an interesting show.
