The EU required that other search engines be offered on devices sold there for years. I know DuckDuckGo was one of the options available. I am glad to see the courts crack down on Google, whose business model of selling your data is an assault on privacy. I have also never liked the way they adjust their search result for ulterior motives. Personally, I have not used Google for anything for years. For searches, it is either BraveSearch, DuckDuckGo, or Bing.

If you must have free search, then I think you should try startpage.com or maybe DuckDuckGo. Can't say I've ever really had luck with DuckDuckGo, or Bing. If you can pay for search, I highly recommend Kagi - much better results IMO at this point. I also like their optional "Ultimate" level for access to many premium AI systems for looking up information or doing text based AI stuff - at $25 a month it's cheaper than buying 2 of the AI systems directly.

Google had a better search engine than the others.
Hence the expression: "Google is your friend."
But then they leveraged that into a monopoly.
"Bad Google. Bad."
