When shopping for a rental car, I use Orbitz to see which company has the best prices, and then I go to the company website to see what coupons or other deals might be available.
Shopping last year to reserve a car for August 2015, Advantage car had the best deal and there was a further 10% savings available at their website. So I reserved a full-size car in Maui for three weeks, base rate $98.01/week, total price $458.31 for three weeks (so around $150/week counting all taxes, fees, and the discount).
I had some misgivings about Advantage since they're not a top-3 or top-5 company. And they're located way off airport, near Krispy Kreme at the corner of Koloa and Kele.
The rental experience and the car itself were problem-free. The airport shuttle was quick and easy (we did more walking than we needed to - - there's no need to go to where the major car rental offices are on airport; just walk straight out to where the car and hotel shuttles make their stops). The check-out process was quick and easy, with no pressure from the clerk when I declined the various insurances. The car was a large full-size Mazda, clean with 11,000 miles on the odometer.
The return after three weeks was equally efficient. As soon as we opened the trunk of the car, the shuttle driver was there to lift our suitcases out and carry them onto the shuttle. We handed the paperwork in at the office, boarded the shuttle, and off we went.
Well done Advantage Car Rental Maui.
