Golf course suggestion between LA and Palm Desert

We have a trip planned at the end of February to Palm Desert, CA (staying at the Westin Desert Willows). We will be flying into LAX and wondered if anyone had a suggestion about where to play golf between LAX and Palm Desert. We were thinking about playing a round somewhere on the way to Palm Desert.

I have played these, but would like to. Oak Valley Golf Club in Banning and Sun Lakes CC & GC in Banning are options. Both are right off of Highway 10. I believe Oak Valley would be a more challenging course whereas Sun Lakes is a 55 and over community and the courses are more lenient.

There are so many choices in Palm Desert and the entire valley, you will have a lot of options once you get there. Desert Willow is a very nice course too.

Oak Valley is a GREAT golf course. Definitely a must play.

Allow three + hours total driving time despite the mileage
