As many of you already know, the cruise industry serving Alaska has been shutdown for this summer season. Additionally, many of the national parks are opening with very limited access, in some cases, not until July.
If you are planning a visit to Alaska and you do not live there, you must obtain a negative test for COVID-19 PRIOR to arrival . . . or face the quarantine procedure upon arrival, which includes being tested there (and quarantining until your negative result is obtained) . . . or remain quarantined for the current 14 days per the governor's orders.
This is a developing story, as it was only announced late last week, with promises of more details yesterday . . . which were still pretty sketchy. They are making this up as they go, with the utmost of concern for their residents. I get that . . . but unfortunately, getting the test isn't that easy if you have no symptoms or haven't been exposed AND if you do, it is next to impossible to get casual testing done and results back within the 72 hours as required (prior to your arrival in Alaska).
So please be sure you are well informed as to what's happening up there. Our trip isn't until July 11th, so we're hopeful there will be continued revisions/improvements over the coming six weeks.
