Greetings,

My wife and I are here at the GM Acapulco for the first time, and are looking for a couple of suggestions.

First off, which is the best/closest place for groceries? We generally like to cook breakfast in the room, and keep some snacks on hand. Nothing too elaborate.

Also, it seems like there are very few dining options currently on the property. Lots of remodeling going on, but not much by way of food (I'm comparing to the MP RM, my only other Vidanta experience). What have been some of your favorite meals off the GM/MP Acapulco property??

Thanks!!

Tom

It's been more than five years since we were there but at that time there was a grocery store ( not supermarket) which had everything we needed less than 1 mile from resort and across road from Sea Garden. We too mayan palace shuttle to sea Garden and walked across road to grocery and back on shuttle once we finished shopping.

When we were there there were 3-4 restaurants that we used and don't remember going out from resort for dinner.

Yes the grocery across from the Sea Garden has breakfast things and snacks and beverages. The OXXO has things too. It is between the GM and the Sea Market. There is also an OXXO across the street to the right of the GM entrance when you are walking out.

It has been a while since we were there, but the Sea Garden restaurant was pretty good and less expensive than some of the GM restaurants. We love having some of the beach vendors bring us grilled fish or shrimp. They deliver on 4-wheelers.

For off-property, ask the bellmen or a taxi driver.

Thanks, Larry and Phyllis.

We checked out the Sun Market (little shop on the Sea Garden property). It had very little by way of groceries. Mostly alcohol and tourist clothing items.

We took a taxi to the Mega market, which was quite close. Stocked up on everything, so we're good to go.

It's interesting both of you say you haven't been in quite awhile. I wonder if the travel advisories have scared tourists away from ACA. The concierge here believes that the lack of a non-stop flight from California to Acapulco is a result of the trouble they've experienced down here. The GM seems pretty empty to me, although I have nothing to compare it with, except the MP Riviera Maya.

Thanks again -- we are thoroughly enjoying our time here!!

We are going to Acapulco GM for two weeks in January. Flights are definitely a problem getting to Acapulco. We go NY to Dallas to Mexico City to Acapulco (but staying overnight at the Dallas airport). When we last went to Acapulco in 2004, it was NY to LA to Acapulco.

Good to hear there is a Mega and a couple of OXXO's nearby.

We checked into it for this year, but the flights are so much more from PHX to ACA than Puerto Vallarta or Cabo and not always non-stop. I am watching for a good price to Acapulco becaue the resort is one of my favorites. We were there with family in 2007 and I took a friend in 2011 when she was going through a tough time. It was where we originally purchased and have been there probably 6 or 7 times since 1999. We always stay for 2-4 weeks.

We ususally ask the taxi driver to take us to Mega from the airport before going to the resort.
