It has been mentioned during a preview presentation to owners we know that an integration of the Asia Pacific Points Programme and US Destination Club Points Programme (which had been suggested as a possible future initiative) may actually be happening as soon as next week.
For various reasons, this integration would require significant work, so this date seems very optimistic.
However, this would be great news for owners like us of resorts in Asia, US (and Europe, even if those follow later), as we would at least then be able to make an informed decision on whether to enrol our weeks in just the one Programme.
Does anyone have any other knowledge, information or thoughts on this please?

Don't know if it would be global since someone else reported last week that there are no plans to incorporate the European resorts in to the program.

Thanks, yes I agree with that although there is some talk of Europe having its own independent Points Programme in future.
Just an Asia Pacific AP and US DC integration would be real progress though
and give us an option for a single enrolment / fee / benefit for our resorts across these regions.

What was mentioned at the Son Antem owners annual meeting with the Advisory Board and MVCI representatives such as Rance Ryan was that there were NO PLANS to sell points in Europe and so European Resorts would continue to sell weeks until sold out. However Rance Ryan did say that MVCI were looking at setting up some sort of Points Overlay system for European Owners. Nothing more than that was said and it was still being looked at.

MVCI did also say that as well as a selected weeks buy back programme they would be setting up a resales facility also. However - my take on that was that it would be nothing more than the existing resales programme that MVCI have - which as all of us here know is not actually doing very much in the way of selling.

I have just had a reply from HQ Marriott to say they have no knowledge of any plans to integrate the AP and DC Points Programmes, but will "reach out" to owners when any such plans are developed!
So either their Asia Pacific team know something they don't (or don't want to reveal) or ... well I don't really know what?

I really don't know why the European and Asian resorts can't use the DC exchange company. They are doing this now for the Carribbean resorts. II is an exchnage company and has affiliations all over the world. It can be done through the DC

I am not sure it is an issue of what can or cannot be done. I am sure you are right that if the will was there it could be done.
However, there is no option on offer now to enrol/overlay our Asian or European weeks in the DC Programme (only our US and Caribbean ones).
Also as the AP Programme has some better features compared to the DC Programme, e.g. on-line reservation, given the choice I would rather
enrol/overlay our US and Caribbean weeks in the AP Programme!

I have never understood why it was possible for th Asia Pacific Points programme to have an on-line reservation system from day one whereas the DC programme still has no on-line reservations after nearly 18 months. It is only computer software after all and should have been easy to clone the Asia Pacific system for use by the Destinations Club reservations.

Even some resorts in the DC are available for on-line reservations in the Asia Pacific system - so it does not make any sense at all - unless of course Marriott just did not want to make the reservation process as easy as that and miss the telephone sales opportunity !!

I think the separate buckets for legacy and trust points may be the reason we have not seen (and may never see) on-line reservations. If they programmed a system then they would have to have a set policy, and the reservation system would not be subject to manipulation without what appears to be a fixed set of rules.

Ultimately an online system is essential - manual booking operations will be simply too cumbersome and more importantly far too expensive to allow the operation to survive. Can you imagine the Hotel operation not having an online reservation system. Could anyone imagine an airline surviving without an online reservation system.

So putting an online system in place is a question of survival for the whole operation.

If that means the two buckets need to become a single bucket of inventory then that is what will have to happen - or the business will not survive.
